DAT tape recorders...
then...
CD ROMs...
and now everyone is finally realizing that greed
has been destroying the music business all along.
Don't forget the attempt to make it illegal to use a tape recorder to record copies of records in your own home for your own use.
Back in 1924, when the proud engineers unveiled their new thing at the record companies, which was using microphones and electronics to make recordings instead of just playing loudly into a big horn that vibrated a needle to cut a master, the suits first decided against it. Not because they thought it would lead to loss of revenue, but because they figured the public wouldn't care. I don't know which record company started using mikes first, but God Bless 'Em. The suite NEVER understood what was going on, and don't today.
