I've had an extremely difficult time getting a stick-on IR emitter (from the MRF200 unit of an HTM MX800) to reliably control this HDTV receiver. The IR emitter has been placed in several locations - at (or near) the IR sensor at the right side of the oval display window, and also over a tiny plastic standoff near the lower central section of the oval. It's amazing that the second placement location even works at all. But it actually seems to work better than placing the emitter over the actual IR sensor. I've tried lots of things to get more reliable control, but I haven't achieved it. Any suggestions?

Have you tried a "blaster"? Maybe take the output of the MRF and put it into a connecting block like a SC AT1.0 and then you could use a blaster. I have had similar problems with the Marantz 9200 RF unit and found this is a pretty good fix. You may or may not have to power the connecting block.

Ed, I have had this same problem w/ all Hughes receivers. I seems that it's IR receiver is eaily saturated, so you need to attenuate the IR. If you're using something like a Niles IRP-2 you can simply ajust the trim pot til it starts working. If not simply place the emitter off to the side of the emitter. You should be able to find a spot where it works perfectly. Also, you could put a piece of scotch tape over the IR receiver and then put the emitter on top of it,
