9.5" hole saw didn't show up. I ordered it from [Link: customholesaw.com] on the 12th and chose 2 day. I waited around all week and even yesterday and it never came.

So... today i went out with my rock saw and cut out 20 9.5" speakers. 2 layers of 5/8" drywall in every area. My arm is super tired.

Rock saw got away from me in 1 room and i have a tiny little dot in the ceiling. In another area i found plywood behind 1 layer of drywall. I will wait for the hole saw to show up for that room. And last but not least... in the dining room the ID had someone move the speaker cables from the wall in the dining room to these little (2'X3') foyer areas on either side of the hallway entrance to the dining room. Whoever moved them cut square holes to pull the cable thru. Then crown molding went up and half the square was buried and the other half had to be patched.

I went over how to patch this area properly so that i could cut out speakers later. I talked with 3 different painters on 3 different occasions including the owner. Today i go to cut out my speaker and i hit something. I cut around the other direction and hit something again. I go ahead and cut an opening to get my hand inside and i feel one of those mesh patch kits. I use my razor knife to score it a few times and then im able to remove the rest of my circle. The mesh, some mud and paint are all thats behind a 4"X7" area. So tomorrow i have to go shove a piece of sheet rock in the void, span it with some wood and run a couple screws in each side to make it stable.

I hate cutting speaker holes. I always make my helper cut the holes. It's all that dust that gets into my contacts.

Dust doesnt bother me. I dont even need goggles with a rock knife because of the way i place my ladder and use the saw. It all falls straight down away from my face. The only reason i wear googles is the junk that falls out of the ceiling.

What kills me every time is 2 layers of sheetrock. It makes the stud finder worthless and kills my arm. I rarely have to cut speakers in so im a whiner when i do. I dont get it. Why are the brackets gone? Who moved them? Wtf?

Im going to start welding a custom fit metal back box/bracket and run about 300 screws thru the sides into the joists. Maybe then they will stay put.

Stamp, sorry to hear of that outcome. Hope you don't end up paying for the holesaw.

You'd have to twist my arm dramatically to make me hand cut 20 holes. After using an MCM and later a Labor Saving Devices hole cutter I am not going back.

I still had 5 holes to cut. Each had plywood behind the drywall so my rock saw wasn't going to cut it... literally.

I called them up yesterday and some such something with the order so the overnighted it to me. It arrived today.

I used it with my 14.4 Milwaukee battery drill (because that is all i have with me). The only way i could get this guy to spin was with it set on hammer drill. It would just seize up with any other setting. It cut 5 holes like butter. Took me like 30 minutes to cut the 5 holes after getting everything laid out.

The only issue with this guy is that the arbor screws on to the saw blade with no way to lock it in place. So when i was trying to start the cut it kept coming loose and the blade would spin right off the arbor. The solution was to hold the blade in place just long enough to get the pilot bit in. Once the saw blade hit the sheetrock it stopped spinning loose. After the first cut the issue didnt exist. Cutting the first hole tightened the blade.
