I am installing an optoma RD50 RP DLP next week. I have never worked with this set before and was just wondering what to expect. Is it installer friendly{discretes, intuitive menus, helpful features}. How does the picture compare to other RP dlp's. Any feedback from people that have worked with it would be appreciated. The only reviews I have found were on the Optoma web site and for some strange reason I think the review may be biased.

Thanks for any help

John,

they looked great, but no idea how they integrate, or how long it took em to get them looking so great!

I have installed about 10 of these units and they look great. The info on the discretes IS in the owners manual that comes with the set. Imagine that a manufacturer that includes the information you need to actually get the discretes out of the remote! Only complaint is that the video switching takes longer than I would like, about .5 sec. AND the warm up and cool down cycles are a bit longer than I would like. Picture wise and feature wise it is one of the best sets around. Let me know what you think when you get it installed.

avgenius1 does the manual have discrete power and input codes? If you still have the codes in a pronto or other hex format could you please post them.

I also found some info on it at AVS forum and everyone seems to say that the picture looks really good.

Thanks for the help guys

Are these the same RP screens that Loewe are using?

Optoma projectors are generally well designed and easy to use, they are also very reliable and have ample connectivity.

John,
The way to access the discrete commands is in the manual. The factory remote contains the get the discretes, just dont remember off the top of my head what key combinations are needed to 'send' the discretes. I think I have them in Crestron and RTI format if that helps.

cmo,

No, I dont think that these are the same screens as the Loewe. The Loewe has a glass screen, the Optoma does not. FWIW, Optoma is beta testing the new HD2++(?) chip for TI. From what the email said, this new chip will improve black level tremendously. Not that it was bad to start with.
