Others, I'll pass the info to the company that hires me to install these. Thanks!

As other have mentioned, the initial requirements are considerable. If you want to work yourself into that market you will need to become at least certified installer. Having In house trainers is not always a requirement if there may be enough independent certified trainers in your area to be able to take care of the training requirement.

Training is a huge part of making any Smart board installation successful . I spent a considerable amount of time looking into supplying Smart boards for a client and realized that the client's commitment to training their own personnel is considerable and even more important than the chosen hardware as well as a considerable budgetary expense for the client.

Once you take a good look at the requirements and commitments to install these products you better understand Smart Technologies dealer requirements. Basically they're not interested in supporting untrained dealers only installing a hand full of these a year. It just doesn't work in the long run for Smart Technologies, the dealer as well as the clients. At least that's the way it works here in Canada.

Promethian lets you use an iPad as a handheld tablet that mirrors what's on the whiteboard - you can draw and annotate and it goes up on the screen. Haven't seen it with my own eyes, but the way it was described sounded very slick.

For another point of view, my wife has been a teacher for a long time now. She has worked with many brands of smart boards, not only teaching the lessons used with them but also developing the lessons.

She tells me that the smart brand smart boards are the best, most user friendly she has worked with.

I'm not sure if this is where I should post this request, but th is was the only message where the SMART brand products where discussed.

Is there any discrete IR codes for SMART products? I'm trying to control a SMART 4084 screen and the remote has only a toggling Power button and a toggling HDMI button (wich cycles through 3 HDMI inputs) - so It's a bit frustrating this is the only piece of equipment without proper control.

Good find: This is indeed the best place here to post this request.

The first thing to entertain is the possibility that such codes might not exist.

I went to the SMART Technologies website. The search engine gave no response to 4084, so ? ? ?

What kind of control system are you trying to use to control the screen? What's the actual full model number of the screen?

I've checked the files here on this site; nothing. Same for URC and RTI databases.

I think the first thing to do is to contact the company. It might be hard to find someone there who comprehends the problem, especially if these guys are screen fabricators and they farmed out the IR control, and/or did so years ago.

There's another approach, which assumes that the commands, if found, actually work.

Every set of IR codes I've seen is part of a set of 256 codes. Your remote uses two or three of such a set of codes. Any of us here who program remotes could find a way, using software available on the site, to generate the other codes of the set so that you could try them out.

Respond here to arrange that. I could do it, though I'm quite busy right now, as could others. There would of course be a charge. Also you'd have to be using a brand of control that we can program. For instance, I don't do Crestron, though I do RTI and URC. Actually I'd prefer to do it using an old Pronto, but if you're in Uruguay as your email address implies, that could make things a bit cumbersome. In that case this would best be done by email.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

There is also a discussion area that may have some tips or an individual who can help.

---

While it is not hard to generate all possible IR codes, I am reluctant to use this approach with screens because there could be some secret codes that will leave the device in an awkward state.

buzz,
that is completely true, but every such state like that that I've ever seen could not be entered with just the press of one button. Maybe I've just been lucky.

That possible danger, though, moves this approach way far down on the list of reasonable things to try.

Thanks for the prompt response; the product I was making reference to is "SMART board interactive flat panel", Model SPNL-4084. Here is a link to some specs:

Although I'm indeed from Uruguay, I work mainly in Argentina, since there is a broader integration market. I've contacted SMART representatives in the region and there seems to be a lack of interest for this kind of support; I use mainly Pronto Hex codes, and use a tiny utility (Vert) to convert these to AMX or Crestron format - since the standalone IR editing apps for AMX and Crestron are no longer supported (and some of these do not work in newer versions of windows). I usually capture IRs with RTI's IR kit (very nice IR management and easy Pronto Hex availability), and convert to the other formats as needed.

I'm no IR expert, so I'm not sure as how to generate all possible IR codes to test at the client's site; It seems to be the best approach - so if there is some kind of utility that can do this I'd be grateful for any info on that. I'll post the only two commands I have now - since I suppose there is header data and info that is needed to generate such commands (and maybe someone con shed some extra insight with these).
