What? Where? I think Daniel will want to know about this as he's not wanted them before.
On the other hand, how much are any of us paying Daniel to have a pop-up free experience?

If you are using firefox, get a free plugin called "noscript" this will block everything including the site itself. there is a drop down menu that lists all of the blocked items. From this list you can simply select what items you will allow.
On remote central for example beside google-anaylitics (which is everywhere) there is also-- viglink doubleclick google syndication clickerpicker
all floating silently in the background. Noscript blocks all of this

Ed will be known as the Tiger Woods of the integration business, followed closely with the renaming of his company to "Hotties A/V". The tag line will be "We like big racks and tight holes"... |

I used the little "!" next to the Quote and Reply buttons, so that Daniel takes a look at this thread, so he can get rid of it, if he wants to. I've seen the popup as well. Anytime a spammer shows up, use the "!" button to report the post, and Daniel gets on it quickly.

If you see a popup, please make note of the ad at the top of the page, and possibly the left side or bottom if it is not Google or an in-house ad (but mostly the one at the top). Ideally the website or company name. This is important, because the popup is hidden on another company's ad and likely has nothing to do with the ad it is "attached" to.
That way I can try to find the ad on the third-party company's listing and a) disable it and b) complain. However not all ads are shown in all areas, and I have not seen this one myself.
Please note that by installing noscript or ad blocking software you are removing the only way this site has to pay for hosting costs. We do not beg for money or send out "newsletters" or ask that people register just to download files or view content - we simply show unobtrusive ads.
Yes, right now there's potentially a popup issue, however at our two third-party ad providers we specifically disable popups, auto-expanding ads, audio ads, ads between posts, keyword linking ads, interstitial ads that block the entire page, plus entire categories of ads, all of which would earn a lot more revenue if we were to allow them - but I don't want to do anything here that would annoy me as a regular viewer.
If you insist on not allowing us to display ads to help recoup expenses, then consider some other way of supporting Remote Central - either by sharing content (ie. files, codes, graphics, etc) or perhaps a donation.

Saw it, too (on a mac, no less! LOL). I'll try to snag a screenshot if I get it again.

I actualy dont mind most of the adds on remote central as they are usualy relevant to things I am interested in.
No script allows you to disable stuff on a per site basis,
I think the popups on remote central are piggy backed off tribal fusion

Maybe, but I've literally spent the last 3 hours of my Friday night trying to find that stupid ad, going so far as to use proxy servers that make it look as though I'm located in the US (since I've never seen that here in Canada and I'm on the site more than anyone)... and I just can't find it. I'm browsing the site and going through all the registered ads on the third-party companies.
I seem to recall one some months back that piggybacked on a charity ad (the charity ad was used as a fake ad so that the survey couldn't be tied to something specific) and I can't find anything like that either.
It's entirely possible that the reason I can't find it is because they've already deleted it. I doubt the ad company is happy with improper popups like this either, because the offenders aren't paying for it, it ticks off their clients, and they have to spend support hours resolving it. I guess we'll have to see if it comes up again.

In all honesty I would have no problem paying monthly for RC. Jus keep the files/custom installer Lounge for pay users that way you don't deter new people
Fwiw I've seen the pop ups but I don't really mind since this site is such a resource. They've never inhibited me from doing what I had to do

Daniel,
Sorry you spent your Friday working on this. We now know to get a screen shot when we see it, so thanks for this info. I do not use an ad blocker, as I know this is how many of the sites I visit, get their revenue. I think you do a great job at RC, and do find the ads to be fine.
We appreciate your efforts Daniel!
