What should a end consumer expect to pay per hour for a job? Is there an "industy standard?" I have had a lot of mixed info and signals from clients. What about to a builder, remodeller, etc.? I try not to get into a per hour thing, but i need a measuring stick. Thanks

it varies...GREATLY..by area...

IN DENVER, we currently charge as follows:

MINIMUM $500.00 consultation/design fee (based more on size of job...IS applied toward deposit IF we are selected for job...is LOST for time spent to consult and engineer project...as D-Tools and COMPLETE plan is produced)

$75.00/hour pre-wire, trim and install (OF GEAR WE SELL)

$95.00/hour for NEW gear WE didn't sell, like from a competitor or off the internet (and a waiver releasing us of ALL responsibility)

$95.00/hour for computer network wiring and machine production (this includes network certification of each drop)

$95.00/hour for Pronto, HTM, RTI programming (ultra complex or integration with other systems steps into next bracket!)

$150.00/hour for advanced computer networking and Crestron Programming

hope this helps a little

Thanks very much. In Dallas I have run into anything from 50/hr to 150/hr on install. The info given by avdude seems to be about the average that I have seen by legit installers.

We don't charge by hour, we charge per run example: 85.00 for a cat5e run... What are you charging for after the per hour rate? if you dont mind me asking...
We then charge for materials, not by the foot for wire on top of the 85.00. Location NY.

The way we do things is to base it on how long it will take. We must make a minimum per hour to operate. IE. Client calls and wants a plasma hung, it will take 3 hours for 2 guys including travel time. In order to pay for everything in the business, it will cost a minimum of 200.00. Just our way of "cost control" I guess. A wise man once said (dont know who he is) "all things being equal, price is the only choice". I definatly think that is an issue that CEDIA should address.

We can't fix prices, but I think the more we get the word out about what's being charged in our region the more things even out. avdude- thanks for the details on design fees and remote programming, we are a little low on that because we charge our standard install rates per hr.
