Ok, i have a home automation system (not x10, cos i live in europe) and i would like to use a RC for accessing this.
I would go for a RF remote because it is typically something you would like to use trough the whole house.
That means i would also would need some kind of basestation that receives the RF signals and transfers them over a serial RS232 interface to my 'home-server' computer where a java program listens to that serial port and gives the commands to my home automation system.
If the base station would be able to send out IR commands (from the station itself or using ir-transmitters on wires) that would be cool too, especially if i could also trigger those sends from the pc.
Anyone an idea if there are programmable RF remotes ? and/or RF receivers with RS232 connection to pc ?
thanks bruno

A Xantech IRS232a can take an IR signal and send out a user defineable RS-232 string. This could be used in conjunction with any RF remote (Pronto 3000/7000 MX800)
This gives you your dual purpose IR/RS232 ability.
