I have an application where I wish to use the new Sonance cinema THX Ultra 2 speakers as they are ideal for the front mounting positions.

However as the room is long and wide I need to locate the rears in the ceiling and am wondering whether I should use the matching cinema (what looks like a di-pole) surrounds in the ceiling or a more conventional ceiling speaker (speaker doesn't have to be round)

Would these di-pole type speakers work properly when placed in the ceiling as I beleive they are purposefully designed in-wall speakers?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

I just use some of sonance's beefy 8 inch circular ceiling speakers they do fine. Sonance will say use their dual tweeter stuff, but that depends on where your seating area is relative to speaker location.

Use back boxes on all of them, for the little expense it makes a big difference.

The Cinema Surrounds work great. We set up a house with both a 5.1 and 7.1 Cinema system. Back boxes are worth their weight in gold.

The Sonace RS-2 might be worth a look as well. Their performance is just plain excellent, and you don't have to take just my word for it.

Dipoles work well in the ceiling. Make sure they are over the listening area and that they fire towards the front and rear and not towards the listening position

Thanks Guys,

Looks from your comments that the Sonances are well liked and the right way to go for this application.
