I was on the tele with URC tech today and he "mentioned" a new remote model 7?? something and said it was about $50 more than the 450 and programmable via computer. Did anyone see this at Cedia. It would be nice to have a "cheapy" for those tight budgets and do it with a laptop. I'm gonna look in CCP for it?

The new MX-780 which is the same form factor as the TRC-780 in the Total control line will be $299. It is not a rebadged MX-450 to be used with CCP.

Ideally this would be used with the MRX-10 for two way. But it still is a heck of a low price for a stand-alone pc programmed remote. Looks good in your hand too.
I am crossing my fingers there are no database or programming issues.
I may be schizophrenic, but at least I have each other.

But will it require the MRX-10 or will it be able to send its own IR commands?

It is currently used with the MRX-10 and total control under the TRC-780. This version currently does not have IR output available through the remoite. It's price is the same $299.

The new MX-780 does have IR output and is programmed through CCP. It uses the MRX or MSC base stations and doesn not have feedback

I have benn using the TRC-780 in my home for the last 3 months and I really like the form factor.

I thought I heard several months ago the new 780 remote for CCP will not have IR direct and must be used with a base station (MSC, MRX1 or MRF). Is this true? Anyone know for sure?

Please clarify something for me; I have no price sheets nearby.

As I read it, the remote is $299, which is great, but has to be used with the MRX-10, which sells for... how much? If this combination costs more than, say, an MX850, then it might be new and great but $299 is misleading. Please clarify this for me. At retail, of course.

The new MX-780 does have IR output and is programmed through CCP. It uses the MRX or MSC base stations and doesn not have feedback

Or is it that this $299 remote can be used as IR only but also with the mentioned base stations?

And my distributor says this is not a distribution item, but is direct only. So how many thousands of dollars do I have to spend to get this inexpensive remote? This is beginning to sound silly....
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I think your distributor is confusing the two remotes. The TRC-780 needs an MRX-10 and does not currently have its own IR output but may in the future. This has benn shipping for the last 3 months. The hardware is capable of IR output but it is not set up to work in the software and if activated would still require the MRX-10. This is only available through direct dealers.

The MX-780 is like the other MX series remotes and has its own IR output and can be used as a stand alone remote without a base station. It can be used with the MRF or MSC basestations if needed. This SHOULD be available via distribution but is not shipping yet.

Both look identical and are price the same price $299. So that's probably the reason for the confusion.

the TRC780 actually does have a built in IR output.  when you pull one out of the box brand new, and push buttons on the sample program, you can view IR signals coming out of the end of the remote.  as soon as you load a program it gets disabled.

So the concept that it's a $299 remote is completely untrue. The thread title asks about an "entry" level computer programmable... and the answer is NO if you think it will cost $299. Right? How much is the MRX-10?

You're the first one in this thread to mention the MX-980. Everyone else has said 780, whether it's MX or TRC. So that adds to the confusion.

Both look identical and are price the same price $299. So that's probably the reason for the confusion.

Yeah, except one guy has been using the TRC-780 for three months, says it's computer programmable (which disables the IR), doesn't mention the base unit, and says it's $299. Confusion.

I'll just phone URC tomorrow.

These don't look the same to me.

MX-980: TRC-780:

However, there's no illustration of the MX-780 on the website, just a press release. A picture would be worth a thousand words.

edit: just worked out how to show them side by side here, that's all.

According to what was shown at CEDIA, the TRC-780 and MX-780 look identical. Except that the label on the MAIN button is yellow on the MX-780. IR/RF, CCP, $299 retail.

They will be available later this year.
