Curious how everyone gets thier new business. I worked for an AV company for about 6 years and I just went on my own about 3 mos. ago. I know the referal business is the best. But in my stage of the game my client list isnt that big yet. Does anyone advertise? Local paper magazine? Web? Just looking for some insight. Thanks in Advance.

I would avoid advertising like the plague. Concentrate on networking instead. Join home builders, and interior design associations and talk up a storm.

Is there somewhere in particular u look for for builder, architects, etc. Of course besides actually looking in the phone book, etc.

Look for architects and builders who have signs up on local projects. These people will likely have FIND A/V INSTALLER on their list, and you are might be their answer.
We advertised (in Beverly Hills) and in ten days we had so much business that we were pissing people off because we could not even get back to them. Point is, it worked. You just have to be sure that you don't advertise in the PennySaver, but where people advertise golf clubs, golf balls, tax dodges, etc.....

I'm sorry... But I gotta ask....
You've been in the business for 6+ years now and havenet made any significant contacts? Did the people you were working for have you locked in a closet?
Dont get me wrong... I'm not advocating stealing clients from ex-employers, but with good solid contacts, builder susually follow their guy if at all possible.

I had plenty contacts with the last company, but I left on good terms and felt it was unethical to solicit thier old clients, builders, etc. They call me then no problem. If it was a bad falling out. I would of left with a client list. Just my belief

This past weekend I did a home and remodel show (was very doubtful going in on what response would be seeing as it was in a mall) and boy was I suprised. I did it because the booth was only 400.00 and figured one install and I would break even. I set up a 43" DLP tv, with a basic satellite/sub system. The response was incredible, I had crowds watching my demos (in the crowd was mall security, that's a whole nother story) all day long. So far, I walked away with 25 hometheater consultations and 6 new construction consults. I've closed 2 home theater systems this week already. The just of the story is, I will be doing the home/remodel shows in the future. Happy selling!!!!
