Curious to find some feedback with HD hookups. Some peole say HD signals should be sent directly to the monitor, while others say there is no signal loss going through a receiver.
Also is there a good HD signal switcher (IR controlled) if a customer does not have either enough inputs on their receier or an older receiver without this capability.

You might check out the Zektor HDS4:

[Link: dcpuraty.com]

The best part is that it switches audio too and does Toslink to Coax conversion and back. Saves a lot of media converters.

FWIW, my concern with the Audio Authority switch for my application was the auto sensing part. My HD DSS STB is on all the time and I was concerned that I might not be able to override its auto switching. I think it is looking for a video input that has just switched on. I don’t have any actual experience with the Audio Authority switch, so it may not be a problem. I do have the Zektor that has discrete IR input commands and I don’t think it has ever missed a switching command in some pretty fast executing macros

Thanks for the options -

Any thoughts on signal loss when you pass an HD signal through a receiver? I've Heard it should really go direct to the display!?!

It is a question of the box's bandwidth. The KDS 8x3 is rated to 300MHz. Extron to 350MHz. These a broadcast switching specifications so there will be no noticable signal degridation

An Ingegra 7.4 boasts 60MHz switches for its component input/outputs. The rule of thumb is 3 to 5 x signal bandwidth and you will not suffer signal degridation. ATSC signal is 19.6MHz. A device rated to pass 100 MHz should ensure you will suffer no signal loss.

I have started to see more issues with HD switching thru A/V Recievers. Screen out of no where will go to green and sometimes will give horizontal static. My guess is a sync issues. Much smoother operation going to the display for switching. Keydigital also makes some great products for your application.

I second the recommendation on the Zektor switches. I used the HDS4.2 [Link: zektor.com]
There is a decent discount for installers, and between the RS232 port and the super felxible IR control (multiple code sets AND learning), it integrates very nicely.

I used another one -- four component inputs with analog audio to two outputs. A switch and a DA in one! With remote control!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
