We're going to be installing a DLP projector in a closet with only the lens visible through the wall. It's a 5-1/2" long-throw lens, so I need a 6" grommet or flanged tube to finish the hole. The largest I've been able to find is a 4" speaker port.

And suggestions or links appreciated.

How about using a recessed-light trim ring?

Doug,

I have used the light trims (as Larry Suggested) in the past, they do work well, but I have started using custom made rectangular trims (16x9). Basically a picture frame in reverse.

doug...

cut a hole out..stud bay size...then use some decorative screws and screw a piece of DARK smoked plexi-glass into the area you've opened up, with the right size hole cut out of it for the lens...

looks pretty damn trick if done correctly!

AVDude,

How many have you done that way? We've got one where we trimmed it out with moulding and caulked the edges. The glass is held in by the molding so removal is not tough but a bit time consuming. Customer wants us to replace it with clear plexi as he feels that clear will let more light through. I figured it wouldn't really color or impede the projector that much but as he's a great client Im willing to go through with it. just wondering if you had experience with dark plexi vs. clear?

Although I found a trim ring, as Larry suggests, for a 3 1/2" (or so) spot light and mounted that in the wall. It looks great!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Use black alzak trim rings made by JUNO so the light won't reflect against the trim :)
