Guys,

got a buddy in Reno, NV who wants a bunch of work done.

I have visited Nevada's website, and the contractor's board website, even read through the Nevada Revised Statues pertaining to our line of work...but it's all clear as mud to me.

Can someone please tell me; Does a low voltage, custom home integrator HAVE to be licensed in Nevada, or is it still overlooked like many other places.

If so, what are the step needed to stay above board?

Thanks,

avdude

Yes, you need to be licensed. We looked into it and decided it's not worth it. When Nevada had it's big boom contractors were going in there and getting deposits and straight up bailing. Now it's super duper strict!! Here's a taste...30 page application with photos, experience sheets noterized, $700 contractor licence fee, $300 retail license, a business location in Nevada, you have to leave a 100% deposit of your estimated tax liability for the year up front $1000 in taxes on gear...$1000 deposit!!! You have to go out there in person to take all the tests all over again...on and on and on...your application will be returned 3x's or more due to missing information that they don't tell you that they need!!! It's not worth it. I would say if it's your buddy then screw it, work on the under if it's inside and not in Las Vegas. We just figured that there is plenty of work locally and until we've tapped out L.A., Orange County and San Diego (Which will never happen) then we'll get licensed in Nevada.
I think the way around it might be to work under a general contractor as his employee.

Tact is for people who aren't witty enough to be sarcastic!

Other than JBJ (who was pretty thorough!!)

NOW I'm just curious if there ARE any custom/pro installers in Nevada that frequent this site??
