Don't blame him for not posting again. He is trying to retype his password

As for "mention the elephant sitting in the living room" isn't that like saying "the emperor has no clothes?" i.e. something obvious but that no one is bringing up.

Q, (do you mind if I call you that) in case you are wondering what the BEEVER comment is alluding to [Link: remotecentral.com]

I don't see why it's so hard for someone to change the password to something they *can* remember after verifying their account. You don't even have to type in the random one to verify -- the registration email includes a link that you merely have to click on (or cut and paste) that does everything for you!

I think it's a good thing there are so few {{cough cough aforementioned jerks cough}} on this site that they really stand out as "memorable"...

On a site with a higher "butthead per capita" ratio they might have a better chance of blending in?

I prefer that you use my proper name Quazy Quother Qucker.

I checked out that thread and it was pretty good. In Beever's one CCF review, he sounded so serious I thought he was reviewing an art painting for a second.

Anyhow, at least he came back and defended himself.

LOL

He defended himself, but no one liked the way he did it, or posted in the first place.

I don't have that many functioning neurons (or is it nutrons, cnat remember) anyway had to get some 2 cents in on this one. I said this was entertaining because of the response, obviously prevoced some strong feelings out there. I have a feeling that ND is a first timer and just frustrated with the process. I wanted to empathize a little so he (or she) wouldn't be alienated forever. The elephant in the living room is an expression I heard and have never been able to use it anywhere, it's kind of like the emperor's clothes. It's basically something so blatant that nobody wants to aknowlege it. Does this count, I don't know, it's just my opinion. I could be wrong. PS Don't give up on us ND. You may be as good as you say you are, just realize that a lot of us have been in the trenches.
How hard can this be?

WOW you guys are all into this string! I have only read half the responses and just had to throw mine in.

I originally had the same complaint as the guy who started this. I wrote a short polite (I hope) note of complaint to, well, uh, who do you suppose I should write to about this....maybe, yeah, oh yeah, I got it now, right: DANIEL TONKS ! !

He politely pointed out that I could easily change the password once I got it. I did. I remember it. It is very easy. The hard part seems to be getting over the anger once you let yourself get angry. I got over that after the fourth password I had to learn for stuff like this. I guess NDBEER has not had to jump that hurdle very many times.

Hope he's feeling better now.

Ernie

I don't like arguing against what seens to be the prevailing mood but, in NDBEER defense, I can feel NDBEER’s pain. Currently I have total of 23 active passwords to other sites. In case anybody is wondering, the other sites are not porn sites.

I have one question - Why is it necessary for a site like this to require a password? Is not like I can steal anything. The worst thing I can do in this site is say something stupid.

Now. Now. There is no need to get nasty, especially if you are unwilling to justify your comments.

Can you give any good reason why it is absolutely necessary for Remote Central to password protect this site? There are many whys to track an author’s identity that “chooses” to participate in this forum. A password is one of the least efficient method.

I acknowledge the fact that this forum is private property and Remote Central has the every right to make any rule that may seem proper. Personally, I think this forum is extremely useful and I have no problem with one more password. But my original question still stands.

Hector, when a forum becomes popular some people with an ulterior motive start abusing it. Like I said before there did not use to be registration but Daniel felt it was needed.

1) On some forums fights between users and merchants had broken out, since there were a few merchants that would flood the forums with advertising (even though it says at the bottom of the screen "Unsolicited commercial advertisements are not permitted on this forum.")

2) some people had usurped others identity to besmirch their name by typing nasty messages

3)e-bay fights would spill out unto the forums on semi regular intervals

4) Once a person using a fake e-mail started a fight with an other user. We know the e-mail was fake, because the person who's e-mail address he had used came here wondering why she was getting nasty e-mails from that other guy, and she wanted to find out how RC was involved

On the other hand there are some benefits to registration

1) editing posts (cannot be done without confirming the editor is the poster)

2) accurate counter (might sound weird, but when I go to a forum where I don't know the people I always use the count as a reference point)
