Q, I think the password is saved in the cookies, and not on this site. I also think it gets rewritten in the cookies when you save your user profile.
(But I guess Daniel could tell us exactly how it works)

And in defence of some the posts in this thread, A forum is like a community, and no one likes to be told that there is something wrong with were the hang out especially when what is said is unfounded and incorrect (as if this is the only place where passwords are case sensitive and asterisked, or that you need to log in for every post).

What rubbed people the wrong way? The fact that I
expressed a strong opinion in a non-offensive way
without attacking anyone?

I guess if an opinion is phrased in such a way as to insult someone or something important it can be seen as being offensive. It is not the expressing that can be the judge of something offensive but how it is received. Ken (assuming you are right and some part of his statement was meant for you) obviously must have taken offence to what you said (since he is generally an upbeat guy, and not the type of guy that attacks people). So in a sense all that you said in your defence can easily be applied in his defence.

Also if you have some good ideas on how to make things better, be positive and mention them as ways to improve this site. (the intermission forum would be the best place) don't be negative be positive. Obviously I don't know if they will be implemented since I am not the one making the changes :-) and I have no idea what changes you are looking for, but I guess it cannot hurt t ask.

I probably used too strong of a word when I said "idiots",...sorry. Actually I was kind of befuddled that an apparently savy HT guy and internet user had so much trouble accessing this site, that he then felt it necessary to blame the site.

What an entertaining thread. We haven't heard back from NDBEER (I hope the ND is not for Notre Dame), but atta boy! Sometimes someone needs to mention the elephant sitting in the living room. Carry on.
How hard can this be?

and for what, just
to be nice and help somebody else out.In my line
of work i don't have time for all this bull, you
might want to consider this next time you decide
to make changes that you think are for everybodys
good.

1) Being nice? From your post I think that would be a personality conflict.

2) If you could "probably" answer every question on this site, and "don't have time for this bull", then why do you even come to this site? Aren't you wasting your precious time?

3) Just because a certain feature does not work EXACTLY the way you like it does not mean that the web site owner did not put a lot of thought into it. A friendly suggestion about it would have been great! Your "I know more than you do" smug message was uncalled for! And if you actually do hang around this site a lot, then why haven't you come back to answer the retorts from others?

4) There are many custom installers with at least, if not more, experience than you and are as busy as you that MAKE TIME to be "nice" to the people on this site, and we are all very thankful for it. They enjoy helping others and the community spirit. Unless I hear from you again to prove otherwise, you don't fall into that category.

Have a nice day!

Thon: Perhaps I'm a little slow, but are you applauding Mr. Beer's statements and how they were expressed, or "atta boy'ing" the replies?

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "the elephant sitting in the living room"?

Just wondering.......

I think it is pretty clear is he is calling NDBEER the elephant in the living room (hopefully not me too!).

What does it mean? Let's say you have company over for dinner and one of the guests belches, farts and scratches his crotch throughout the meal. Everyone else is polite and ignores it as if it isn't happening. That would be ignoring the elephant in the living room.

Sorry, but that's the best explanation I can come up with. How about it Thon?

BTW everyone, the first post I made I was in a hurry and had not thoroughly read NDBEERS post. I saw everyone going after him and decided to jump in. After I reread his post, I felt like a complete idiot for defending it.

Thanks, Q! I really didn't know what that saying meant. And thanks for weighing in on the situation.

All is cool!

Now, let's all go and get a BEER!

I know. I know. Too corny, but what the heck. Corny jokes are my life! ;-)

It looks like the password issue was too much for NDBEER to reply to this post any more. Interesting what becomes a popular thread here isn't it :)
