It still blows me away that in the digital age companies still use regular fax and not a version of efax or just emailing docs. So for the couple faxes a year that I would receive I'm looking at doing an internet fax. Does anyone have an internet fax service or used one? I'd like some reviews on the ones out there. And trust me I googled and found a bunch of efax companies but not many legit reviews.

the reason most still use a standard fax is you have better protection under FCC rulings...the FCC regulates POTS lines so if you are sending important information such as social security numbers, credit card numbers, account numbers, or any other important info you would not want captured from a mail server you are still better off with standard plain old fax...still amaze's me how many people think it is OK and safe to send data over a non-encryped line...

I understand the security stuff but if it is not sensitive I use faxzero. You get one or two free faxes a day for 1-2 pages and can pay for more pages a reasonable charge.

Crestron still faxes stuff. As for security concerns we e-mail secure stuff all the time.

i second faxzero for the few times I have to fax crap. Such as Yamaha orders. I'm direct and it is AMAZING in this day and age I have to fax a piece of paper to Yamaha to get an order in. Even the place I get my oil changed at is now paperless. They charge a 1% paperless fee on their itemized receipt (which I am emailed) and I am HAPPY to pay it. I understand redundant storage can be expensive, but paperless is the only way to go!

I setup fax.com during a network upgrade for an attorney client several years ago and they have been using without any problems. As a matter of fact they love it.

We were just talking about it a few months ago and the owner said she would never go back.

Bear in mind, they have some killer 20ppm ScanSnap scanners [Link: buyfcpa.com] installed on every PC in the office so its very convenient for them.

They also have a nice array of NAS with structured file directory sharing. Their "practice" is that every piece of paper that walks in the door (mail, receipts, client paperwork, etc) immediately gets run through the scanner and archived on the NAS. Once on the network, they can fax, email, print or whatever they need. The paper(s) then go into a bankers box, sorted by date only, and off to storage when full. They basically have zero paper in the office.

I would like to implement something like that myself. It seems to work very nice.

jfax.com offered me a free number about ten years ago. Their free account limit was 15 incoming faxes per month. Once, somehow, enough advertisers collected to send me 16 faxes one month, I was faced with losing the number or paying $15 per month. I've since added faxing out with that same service.

I've never had any operational problems with jfax. The worst it gets is people giving me a funny look when I tell them my fax number is in an area code several hundred miles away.

Let me add to that: the worst it gets is when I have to fax something with a signature, or when I have to fax a dozen pages.

It's much easier to point the faxing program to fifteen pages as files on my computer than to print them all out, fax them, then throw them away.

As for the signature, I've made a .bmp of my signature and I use that.

This is why I love my tablet. I downloaded a free PDF reader that allows on page annotations so I can type and sign right on the PDF in red "ink" and email it in. I could fax out also but honestly havent had to fax in maybe 2 years.
