"Quality" is the problem across the board. People have become so enamored with getting things bootlegged, free, or super cheap that the industry is starting to cater to them. Why offer it in HD when a majority of people are just fine watching it in 480i on their computer monitor.

There is only one issue with that, free is free and you can't compete with that. If there is nothing wrong or the person does not perceive it as being wrong, then why would he pay more then he has too?

Cable and Sat providers wont leave their channel lineups alone, but Wes thinks online content is going to stabilize.

the more I think about it the less sense it makes.
Like others have said shows will never stabilize some go on the air and others off and then there are brakes......
On the flip side if he only means where to find them on line, then why would it be needed? once I know X is on watchX.com, why do I need to go back and use his site again, won't I just go directly to WatchX.com? Let's pretend for a second "stabilize" is the same as itunes is for music, (everything I want I can find there), do I need a third party place to tell me itunes will have the song I want? no I just go there.

Wesley,

I really don't understand how this spreadsheet will help anyone. It is not helpful, as it is not complete! You even recognize and acknowledge this.

You come very close to actually proposing a decent business model, but fall short of taking it to its' logical conclusion. Let me paint the picture for you, as you seem unable to figure it out...

The problem causing people not to cut the cord, is the difficulty in finding the shows they want, and what device they need to watch them. So, the money is not in some spreadsheet that only discusses a small handful of the shows... It is in a service that will redirect the video I want from any of the myriad of sites, to my device, without me needing to figure out where to pull it from!

I find it funny that you didn't even realize in your spreadsheet that you needed to pull all the shows available, and discuss why this may only be done at some point when:

When channels and shows settle better, then I can maintain such a list. Right now, things have been changing a bit too much to maintain such.

This is the fallacy.  Once things stabilize, this is no longer needed!  So, once the problem is fixed... you will be able to fix this.  LOL

If you really wish to be entrepreneurial, you need to think in a more innovative fashion.  How about getting some software engineers together, and designing a webscraper that will regularly scrape the appropriate websites, and index their content.  Then you only need to design a website that allows this content to be accessed by the various devices already designed.  This may involve transcoding the content on the fly, and forwading it to the customers device.  Done correctly there is a nice business model here, and it involves software, and a server farm that you likely only contract for.  The IP is the software.

But you think this business is a book, and a poorly designed Excel spreadsheet.  Of course you want us to buy your book to discover the formulas you use.  LOL  If I wished to know the formulas, I'd look at them in the cells of the spreadsheet.  But, the results are so weak, and in my opinion incorrect, that I'm not even willing to go to that simple extent.

Okay, so this will be hard......

Welcome back Wesley. Glad you are still alive and kicking.

Whew, okay, now I need a drink. Maybe some popcorn. I'm not going to get involved with this thread past lurking, and this post. I just can't do it. The last Wesley thread was enough for me. Good luck in your new venture Wes. If it works out and you become rich then be sure to rub it in our faces. If not, we will await your next big plan.

Wesley, I am sorry to say that you appear to be a 1-hit wonder, this thread is a faint imitation of the original. I fear you are the Bob Beamon of RC, that your original thread benefited from a number coincidental advantages which by sheer luck converged all at once, and that you are destined to never approach your former greatness.

Wesley is proving us all wrong! He is on the front page of CE Pro today, tomorrow the New York Times! In 4 weeks he'll be on the top 100 book list and laughing at us all the way to the bank.

The really sad part of this venture is that many dummies will actually buy into it, and then find out what a rip off it is.

No doubt that Amazon will bury him with litigation after the truth comes out, and the complaints pile up, then announce the perfected version, on the Echo platform, of their own.

This will likely be "I was a millionaire for one day.".
