Hello I live in area where it cost way to much to hire a authorized installer of control4 equipment. One of the biggest problems with living in Alaska, its hard to find any one who is an authorized rep for just about any company. My friends sent me some control4 equipment. Light switchs, multi button switches, AVM-MC1-B controller and a AVM-16S1-B AV Switch. I was able to find out it is on 1.3.2, the problem is the composer software I was given is Composer Pro 1.7.2. The controller will not update itself to 1.7.2, it was updated to 1.3.2. But than lost the ability to talk with the internet. So I' am hoping you guys can help me get my hands on the software I need or help me with troubleshooting my problem. Oh I also learned that If I could get my hands on upgrade usb stick, I could do it that way to.

Someone Please Please help me, I so want to use my new equipment.

Sounds like you need to contact your friends who sent you the products and have them set you up with what you need.

I believe the software is protected like AMX, Crestron, RTI and others so no one on the forums may be able to assist. Giving out protected software could cause a dealer to lose the line.
There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.

Being a control 4 dealer, I can tell you that if I were to give any software out to anyone besides someone working for me, I stand to be terminated as a dealer with control4.

I do hear your problem, with location, I'd recommend first trying to contact Control4 for support, be prepared to be on hold for a while. Second, I'd try sending controlling in to be updated by the closest dealer.

Best of Luck.

Look on the bright side.....you have a nice paper weight until you can pay for the programming.......

Can we get a banner at the top of the forum that states you probably will NOT get protected software here......or we will go back through everyones opinion on if they believe it or not they should have he software, when in reallity it is up to the manufacturer not us

1.7.2 WILL indeed update 1.3.2 product. (Although, you may want to try to get .7.4 eventually as that was the latest stable release for that Gen)

You need to register the controller with Control4 first before you can update it. That also can be done in 1.7.2

these are thing your buddy should be able to help you with no problem...

I suspect your "Buddy" may be some random ebay market though...

I understand your in Alaska and may not have a local dealer. there really is no reason to try to deceive us.

While you are right, some equipment was bought off Ebay, but the main controllers where not. I moved to Alaska from Rhode Island, this is where all my family and most of my friends still are. I' am not sure where he got the main equipment from, all I know it was all new in box's and fully wrapped up. He said he bought from a local dealer, but the software that came with it i'm not sure. I assume that the dealer may have known what my situation would be and included it with it. I' am not trying to deceive you, lie to, trick or otherwise pull the wool over your eyes. I' am just stuck in a situation that I cannot get out of.

Your best bet would be to contact the dealer that the equipment was purchased from, he would be your best bet.

Also, there are three dealers in Anchorage, have you tried contacting any of them? What city are you in?

If the items were bought "New" there should be a dealer associated with them.

You need a Control4 Account. You need a "Dealer" assigned to the account. Most of what you need can be done with Control4 Foresight remote access. As long as you can get everything set up on your network and have an always on internet connection the stuff that needs human interaction is usually easy to talk someone through.

Without someone willing to give you direction(IE> Someone getting paid to help) you are probably going to wind up with a bunch of paperweights.

His original post said the cost was way "too much" to hire someone. That means he is "too cheap" to have it done properly.

Deal is done.

I got the impression he though it might be necessary to bring a dealer to him. that could get really expensive.

If he doesnt want to spend a couple hundred to get a hand via remote access... hes out of luck for sure.

I did not know that I can have someone remote in and help me out. In all honesty am I cheap, yes, do I prefer to do my own work, yes. I' am willing to pay for service, when they need to be paid for, yes. But I prefer to do everything myself, for example; the house I live in I built, did every part of it myself, My server, built myself, my theater, so and so on. Would I be willing to pay someone yes, but I would rather do it myself. Maybe everyone on here is a legit installer/dealer. I thought maybe one or two of you would be a DIYer who would be willing to help out one of there own kind.

You should of done more research then. this isn't a problem that has to do with running software on your home PC. This is a core setup problem to start with.

as far as DIY goes, You might have better luck on these forums.

You say it a core setup issue, what do you mean by this? I've been wondering if there are ports I need to open, or forward to the controller. I can talk to the controller, and to the everything else. But when I try to update, it says the director cannot connect to the internet. When I bring up system manage on the controller it pass all the test but the internet connection. Any ideas on what I have done wrong here or what I need to do. My connection to the internet is;
ADSL modem to linksys wireless modem to a 18 port network switch.
