I am thinking purchasing a channel modulator to modulate my Sony Mega storage over a channel to tv's in the rest of the home for disc explorer selection. Will this work? Also, are there any advantages to the Elan Z880 over a standard, say Channel Plus modulator? I have an Elan Z630 already so audio distribution is not a problem. But I would have to run additional wire for the Z880. (Not so bad in my house).

I'm open to suggestions.

The Elan Z880 is not a modulator. It is an 8-in, 8-out (8x8) composite video switcher. As such, it will give you much better picture quality and much more flexibility and is a natural mate to yout Z630. It is also much more expensive, requires additional configuration, programming and wire runs.

The Z880 is a baseband video switcher and you cannot mix those signals on the cable with RF signals - so a seporate coax run is needed to each TV - and the TVs also need to have a composite video input.

The Z880 provides high quality baseband video distribution for up to 8 DVD or DSS video signals - ideally siuted for large (25" +) TVs located through out the house.

ELAN also sells a 3 channel digital modulator with +30dBmV outputs (no external amplifier needed)that allow you to take 3 composite video signals and sum them in with your cable TV signal - which should be more than sufficient for the Sony Mega Changer video output (as well as 2 other sources).

Go with a cheap Channel Plus modulator, I went with 5 Dayton Audio (PartsExpress) 3 channel modulators for my security cameras and various other inputs. Works good, but it needs to be combined into the incoming CATV/ANT signal before it gets distributed (big duh.

Parts Express actually has a lot of good products for the money. I put in a 10 camera security system for less than 3 grand
