I've been reading messages here about not sharing professional advice with consumers, and you have me feeling guilty about asking this, but I also sell my advice for a living, and I give free advice all the time on small, easy requests. I hope this is such a request: Some years ago a friend of mine installed an IR system that allows him to control his components from anywhere in his home. He has emitters running to each of his components, except to his TV, which is a Mitsubishi RPTV VS-50805. He said that he couldn't find the receiving "eye" on the set and that its location wasn't in the manual, so he never set up an emitter for it. I inspected the set and sure enough...no sign of a receiving window. I also looked up the manual on line for the set at the Mits web site, and it doesn't say where it is located. Does anyone know where on Mitsubishi rear projection TVs the receiving eye is located?

It is inside the set looking at the projection mirror in reverse. You can take the back off the set and stick a flasher in there. We had to do it for a HD Mitsu that required activation from a wall touchpad. We put a conventional eye on top of the set and it also sent IR commands down the bus that ended up back at the flasher inside the set. Some Mitsu's have a IR command out jack that you can pull IR into your IR system with.

The "eye" on most Mitsubishi sets is next to the green CRT. Typically, you can see the eye, and get close enough access to place an emitter, by pulling the front service panel. I would like to say that you do this at your own risk, there is some significant danger in touching live components even if the set is powered off and unplugged. Removing the back panel of a rear projection set also carries some risk in that there is a fragile mirror typically attached to the back of these sets.
