Hi we have recently had a number of Integra receivers "lock up" in customer's homes. The units simply freeze, where they no longer respond to any remote command or buttons on the faceplate. The volume knob, the on/off switch... nothing works, but the unit is on. Then once we remove power completely by pulling the plug, the unit resets but loses all of its memory functions. I am wondering if anyone else has ran into or seen this problem. It seems to happen specificaly with the Integra DTR5.3/5.4, and DTR6.4.

Thanks.

David,
I am a fellow Integra dealer..While I have seen this problem on Integra's and other Recievers for that matter..I would not say we have a rash of it happening..It of course is usually caused by power surges and brownout's a p.c. is a p.c. and sometimes they have to be "rebooted".It does concern me that it is happening alot..I would guess you have good surge suppressors on all your installs??

I have had this happen on approximately 90% of the units. All the installs are different and few share any similarities. We have tried using different surge suppressors or none at all, with the same results. Its just a matter of time before it happens. It is driving me crazy and costing us a lot of money and headaches. I wish I could find the cause.

I agee with the above statement. Switch to Denon.

But seriously. Surge protection doesn't do squat for brownouts. You need line conditioning (AKA Battery backup) that will keep you voltage within tolerances regardless of what the power company sends you.

David, How many is 90%?? I just find it perplexing..We sell on average about 60,000.00 a year dealer cost, in Integra..I firmly believe they are The best Recievers on the market..Denon does not hold a candle to their sound quality..We have tried other receivers over the years.Sony ES, Kenwood Sovriegn,Sherwood Newcastle, (the latter actually builds the Denon product)..We have always favored the Integra and this year made the decision to sell them exclusively..and would not have done that if they were not reliable..Yes on occasion we will have a D.O.A or sometimes another faulty unit of some sort..but the average has been well below 2% which is probably industry standard for offshore product..There has to be some reason these are failing..I do know the Integra's are sensitive to power issues..But that is not an issue we have here in Alabama..are you guys in an area known for problems with power??something just seems amiss here...

I'm an Integra dealer as well and have only seen it a couple of times. It's not brand specific, because a client I did an install for had his Sony lock up last week. Unplugged, sat a couple minutes then fine.

If you are in an area where power is a little less reliable then a better power conditioner would be worth a test in a few clients homes. If it solves your problem then that would be another good reason to protect future client's units with good protection.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

I am baffled that more guys are not having this problem. All I can think of is that almost all the installations where this has happened has included the Motorola DTC5100 HD cable box. That thing throws out RF like a radio tower. I have this happen not on all models but DTR5.4 and 6.4's. The other day it happened right in front of me. We unpack a brand new unit, get it hooked up and while adjusting it the thing just seized up. You guys using Denon's, I have used them in the past what I did not like is that they are slow to respond to IR commands. I had to do delays in many of the macros because the Denons did not seem to like fast IR strings. Has this been improved upon? Thanks for the feedback guys.

david,

that could be your problem, just check it. Take a unit you KNOW has been having problems, and see what it does when you remove the cable box from the equation. If the cable box is emitting some kind of interference, at just the right frequency, then by removing it, your problem should go away.

I don't do alot of Integra, but I do alot of Onkyo, and I have NEVER experienced the problem you describe. I also have never played with the new hd cable boxes, as they are very limited in use here asd yet, but it certainly is possible that something is interfering.

lemme know, this one is fascinating to me!
