One thing that makes a big difference in one Plasma TV's quality over another, though they may share the same 'Panel manufacturer' is the video processing that takes place inside and that is usually proprietary to the specific manufacturer. An example are motion artifacts and black level. Some manufacturers sets perform MUCH better in these areas.

Our local Costco sells an AKAI plasma really cheap. I looked on the back and the FCC ID # said it was made by Samsung.
I wonder who comes out to service it if your AKAI crashes?

One important thing of note here. I don't think that Gateway 50" plasma TV supports HDCP. It has a DVI input, but the specs don't say anywhare that it is HDCP compatible. Watch out!
