its really killing me how picky this onkyo network cards are.
not sure if firmware can fix this anymore.

ive never seen a network card be picky!

anyway try the following ,
connect directly to router bypassing switch,
and any other combinations . . .

firmware updates via usb

pulling power for a few minutes if necessary as well.
im nervous as hell to get an email from client this weekend
that the receiver is not responding again . . (ip control)

It sounds like you've spent a lot of time with this IP control of the AVR...I'd get back to basics with 232 or heck even IR until Onkyo gets their shit together. No use looking like a chump in front of the client. Do you have another unit you can test back at the shop until then?

Got the same setup here too.  Ended to use 232 and IR to get to swith input to PORT/iPod.  No metadata from UP-A1.  Next plan is iPort for RTI.

Thinking about pull the RTI out and replace em with URC MX-6000 and PSX-2.

I'll take any input...

Motech,

Just wondering if this one came back to bite you. I have an Onkyo thats been working great the last view months with ip control but now its displaying the same issues.

Strange because I can see it on the network with Fing, but it refuses to respond to network commands either via the Onkyo app or Control4. Already tried the reboot, - don't wanna factory restore it. Guess its RS232

Also have this issue, some weeks back I notice that I couldn't start it remotely from the app (Android). Now I can't connect to the network at all.

* TX-NR616 connected directly to router
* Device unplugged for more than one hour
* Factory reset done
* Latest firmware (1171-7110-0500)
* LED indicator on router says not connected
* Network settings grayed out

Any suggestions what to try next?

oy, this again.

You have a bad Texas Instruments chipset on one of the boards. Known issue. You have to have it repaired or just get a new receiver. It likely not under warranty. If was an Integra (Onkyo sister company, at one time) your rep would get it replaced.

Thanks for quick reply!

Onkyo actually had an extended warranty for my device! :)

Just got my box from Onkyo to send them my 3+ year old receiver. As said above, this is a known issue. Check this link for more info - [Link: onkyousa.com]

If your receiver is one of those affected, they will fix and take care of all shipping.

Sounds like an issue with the NIC not being able to get the proper network speed from the switch. Try removing the blue and brown pair from the cat cable and force the speed to 10/100.
Always Second Best...

Hi, thanks a lot for that information. Your post and the link provided to OnkyoUSA were a lifesaver!!

I was experiencing the same issue with the network card but also had a more serious problem. The audio stopped working all along!! I didn't have any audio no matter what channel I tried to use. I went to the link you provided and after checking my serial number, my receiver is affected by the failed chipset and Onkyo is aware of these problems. They offered a free repair or a $125 rebate towards the purchase of a new unit. I chose to have mine repaired and they quickly processed my order to have an empty box delivered by FedEx for me to ship my unit back at them. All shipping costs are covered by Onkyo!

Note that my unit is a TX-NR708 which by 2016 is 5+ years old but Onkyo, aware of these issues is offering free repairs to all units affected by the Texas Instruments chipsets until 2018! So, my advice... if you're experiencing any issues with your network connection or audio (sometimes even video output can be affected) don't wait and get your unit repaired at no cost by Onkyo now!

So thanks again! This post saved me!

I just registered especially to say a huge thanks for posting this information. My 7 (!) year old receiver is eligible for the repair, and hopefully will continue to provide years of service after this.

Thanks again!
