I am setting up a remote IR system using coaxial cable, Xantech model 291-80, and CPL10 IR/RF Couplers. Does anyone know the frequency setting the 291-80 should be set at for a Pronto TSU2000?

Thanks
-Jim

The frequecy will only have to be adjusted if you run into problems.... It has nothing todo with the Pronto. It has to do with the original remote frequencies.

The frequency you are looking for is for the devices, not the universal remote, it outputs whatever the device needs to see, w/in limits. What are the devices that you are controlling?

Thanks for the clarification jcmitch. I had this all turned around... The device I am trying to control is a Dish Network satellite receiver model 508.

I have the Pronto all setup so that if I am in the same room, everything is controllable. What I am trying to do is control the Dish receiver from another room.

I have the Xantech 291-80 plugged into a CB12. The CB12 is powered by a non-Xantech 12-volt power supply (output: 9vdc 500mA). I run a mono audio wire from the CB12 to a CPL10. I run a coaxial cable (laying on the floor for now) to the other room where it terminates with another CPL10. From here I use a Xantech 283M mouse emitter that I mounted over the IR pickup of the receiver.

All this buys me zip... I set on the Pronto icon that shuts off the receiver when I am in the same room as the receiver. I then spin thru the frequency settings (slowly) on the 291-80 but nothing happens. What am I missing here?

How can I tell if this system is working correctly? Can I use a voltmeter somewhere and if so, what should I see for reading?

Thanks
-Jim

Found this out on the Xantech site -- IR Troubleshooting Guide

[Link: xantech.com] .

The parts I have look like they should work but the power supply looks to be way low on output, it is only showing .016 DCV....

Make sure the remote you are using is infrared (IR), and the receiver is set to receive IR. Many Dish Network receivers use Rf remotes. FYI, the carrier frequency for the IR commands on a Dish Network receiver is 38kHz.

The remote is a Pronto TSU2000 and it controls the receiver just fine if I am in the same room as it is. Some of the early Dish Receivers did not support IR but they have long since switched over to supporting both IR and Rf.

Thanks for the feed back on the frequency of the dish receiver, just one more piece that I do not have to worry about. Now if I can just beat the snowstorm tomorrow, I will pick up the new power supply and try this again....

Well I picked up the new Xantech power supply and was surprised that there was a little red light inside the IR receiver that came one when I plugged everything back in. It was the first time I had seen it...

Everything works with the coaxial cable strung across the front room floor. I have decided I want to skip installing another coaxial cable run. I am going to take advantage of a couple of unused twisted pair wires in a cat 5 cable that I already have run. I could not find a mini plug for the Leviton connectors I use so I am going to go with a Leviton's RCA-110 QuickPort connector along with a mini plug to RCA adapter.

Anyone see a problem with this?

Thanks
-Jim
