I have a customer that I'm doing a pre wire for. He has been talking to the local B&W dealer and has been recommended some B&W in-wall speakers for his theater. I asked him about enclosures for these speakers and he said the dealer told him the B&W in-wall speakers don't need enclosures and enclosures are specifically NOT recommended for their in-wall speakers. While there is probably more I don't know about speaker design than I know, I have always felt that the correct volume enclosure would improve the sound of in-walls, especially in the bass and lower mid-range frequencies.
What do you guys think about this or is it another great unknown like speaker wire quality?

phil...
check their website...several of their in-walls COME with backboxes....
I know it bucks tradition...that's for sure!
That's like saying that whether you put their speakers in an eight foot stud bay with r-11 insulation, or in a 12 foot studbay with r-13 insulation, or for that matter, a stud bay with NO insulation...that thier speakers are going to sound the same?
I find this impossible to believe...
solution...YOU sell him some speakers (although BW does make some pretty fantastic speakers)...
