I have a Sony Plasma PFM42B2 and I have the Service Manual (in pdf format) and there it says you can access the the service menu with the remote commander: (DISPLAY * 5 * BRT+ * ON) but these are not working with my plasma. Is there something extra I have to do to enter this menu?

As a side note, my plasma battery seems to be dead, everytime I disconnect the power from the outlet I have to set everything up everyday. Is this a problem for the service menu?

I have tried everything even macros with 1 sec between commands, but without luck.

If you ask, why would I want to mess with the service menu? Well there are two settings that are off by default and should be on for images in motion. This is a commercial unit and comes by default to display still images or a PC. I need to turn these two settings on.

They are:

(15)FIELD MODE

Whether the interlaced signal is processed within a
field or within a frame, is set.
ON : When the input interlaced signal is processed
within a field.
OFF : When the interlaced signal is processed within
a frame.
Select the ON position when a signal has a low corelationship
between the two fields within a frame such as moving picture.

(16)FRAMELOCK MODE

Whether the PDP display picture is synchronized with
the input signal to scan converter or not, is set.
ON : The PDP display picture is synchronized with
the input signal.
OFF : The PDP display picture is asynchronous with
the input signal.
When moving picture (animation) is going be displayed,
select the ON position.

NOTE:
This item can be set to ON as long as the vertical frequency
of the input signal is in the range of 50 to 60 Hz.

Any help?

Did you try your dealer. Had to buy the plasma from someone.

For Sony TVs service menu is: display, 5, vol+, power

Yes... they are coming on tuesday. I just wanted to do it myself... For plasmas the service menu is: display, 5, Br+, on. These plasmas don't have vol.

The thing is... the plasma's battery is dead, is this a problem to get to the service menu? Do I have to change the battery?

I'm sorry but just because the plasma battery might be dead (TBD) I highly doubt that is your service menu problem.

I posted the display, 5, vol+, power -- Thinking you might pickup and try display, 5, Br+, power or some combo of last two entries.

IMO if you are even asking about changing the battery you don't have any business in the service menu.

Note: All material above is my opinion, guesses from experiences from a few years working with electronics. Take it for what you paid for it.

I've always been known to be brutally honest. From what was posted by the thread starter, I still stand by my post. Just because you can doesn't mean you should comes to mind!

My personality was born way before the company I work for. Having spent time in many countries, lived in many states, and served in the Marine Corps in the electronics field etc... Been around the world by age 22. Half by air, half by sea. Married, 2 kids, house ....... You get the gist.

I just feel the poster is over his head. Most of the time these companies use RAM for storing setting etc. If this was SOOOO important than the dealer should have made this change upon delivery. I've had to fix many issues that some unqualified person tried to do. That's why I call a Plummer when I'm in need.

BTW you have competition. I was behind a van(beat up) a few months ago with magnetic signs on it."Two men and some wire" ........... Already cleaned up behind them.

That's why the installer is going to set the plasma up for me and change the battery.

Yea Dave, I knew about them some time ago..and as you know they are not competition to AVX,Sound Decisions, Front Row, or any other what I would consider reputable companies in town..There lead guy tried to secure some employment with us about 4 years ago..There will always be these types around..My company in one week grossed 15,000.00 just fixing Tweeter problems..Though they have improved dramatically since then..Having an old AVS guy on board now..Our histories are very much the same..But I did Army instead for 5 years..well see ya around..

The tech guy came and he couldn't get in the menu either. Now we are waiting for a response from sony to see if there is something wrong with the plasma or if we have to do something else to get to the service menu.

He agreed those settings should be on for images in motion.
