either they will charge for the app or they may give the app for free and charge more for hardware over time (or source cheaper hardware parts, etc.).

there are plenty of ip to IR/rs232/relay/etc. boxes on the market these days so competition is heating up in the smartphone market for remote controls.

logitech is starting to go down this route also with the google tv project.

it's just that remote manufacturers cannot afford to ignore this market segment at this point. they need to hedge their bets in case the smartphone/mid/pmp/tablet/etc. really does become the defacto standard for remote controls at some point.

like for HA it should shakeup the market a little.

I'm writing up and have pics which aren't terribly exciting, but ...

Doesn't the XP-8 have two-way IP?

Also, is RTI showing iphone app at Infocomm? Not in the press release.

thx

This is definitely exciting. I'm curious to see what the price points are. I REALLY hope it doesn't take them 2 years to roll out these new processors. It sounds like the XP3/6 will be smaller versions of the XP8, which is what we've needed.

Plus the iPhone app needs to be out very soon. With C4, Prodigy and even Savant getting in at lower prices, many small systems are squashing want RTI can do at those prices. Sure once you get an XP8 they're competitive, but below that, its a tough sale IMO.

depends what you mean by two-way IP. It can control devices two-way via IP but it can not be controlled two-way via anything. You can send it one way RS232 commands but not IP.

that's what I mean. Just sounded from an earlier post that IP was new feature, but it's the same as XP-8.

XP-3

I was enquiring about the tsw9500 it's a pronto inwall, I believe they have a processor coming aswell. They said earlier this month that they will be showcasing the inwall for the first time at infocomm..

the reason i mentioned IP like it was new is because the current ZRP6 does not offer IP Control . . which is a huge let down.

everyone has been asking for a half size XP8 and the XP6 seems to be it..

on another note, ive always had trouble trying to figure out the best way to implement an rti system in a large home. rti insists you can rely on zigbee hopping but some of these homes are really thick and large and i would not rely on such a thing.

now that we have the XP6 and XP3 with ip control, we can set up local XP3/6 and send control back to master rack via IP/Network . .
or some version of that . . in order to have a hard wires ZM24 in the areas that matter.

was it a typo that the new xp3 and 6 will have 422 rf . did they mean 433? . They also said the xp-8 had built in rf ? having built in rf and zigbee on new remotes is great .
