Hello
I am wheelchair bound and can not access my TV or VCR. This probably is not the right place to post this, but you guys seem to know your stuff.

Is there an IR trasmiter device (USB or serial port) that has smart learning and will allow me to work my TV and VCR via a computer program?
I think I have seen remotes that control PC devices, but I would like to pull up a virtual remote on my screen and program my VCR or operate my TV.

Does anyone have any ideas that may help me?

Thank you.
Larry

Try www.cinemaronline.com. You'll also need a Nirvis slinke. See www.nirvis.com

It's funny you should ask. Just this weekend I was reading the Dec. issue of Technology magazine. In it was a article on "Wireless Aids for the Disabled"
John Peifer and his team at Georgia Institute of Tech.
are working on wireless aids for the disabled. Check with: Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center at Georgia Tech. The email address for the magazine is.
www.technologyreview.com. You were right on to check here. We all love to help... Good luck and let me know how you do.... Jerry

Has anyone used the nirvis Slink-e? It looks like it might solve a problem I'm having, but there's no phone number on nirvis' site to call them to ask them. I've emailed them with no response.

I want to use the Slink-e at a remote location connected to computer via modem, and use it's ir emitter to control a vcr.

Any ideas? anything else that might work?

thanks guys

The company I work for, Destiny Networks, sells a home controller with a Graphical User Interface that runs on Internet Explorer. You'll need someone to come in and set it up for you, but once it's done, you'll have full control of your theater. The system is ethernet enabled, so you can set up a wireless 802.11x network or standard cat5 hardwired network, the GUI talks to the D5K controller and the D5K blasts out IR, RS232 or RS485 commands to your components. Other than theater control, our D5K system with the IE GUI will control lighting systems, HVAC and security systems. If your willing to retrofit an HPS sensor system in, you can have "hands free" lighting where the lights will come on and turn off automatically as you enter and exit rooms. Check us out at www.destinynetwork.com , I hope it works for you!

RE: Your hyperlink to Destiny Network returns a page labeled:

"Future Home of a
Dotster Registered Domain."

Is the site just not up and running yet?
