14/4 speaker wire and AC Power

I think i saw a thread about this @ some point but i have seen a few times 14/4 cl rated stranded wire terminated as basically an extension cord. This can't be right but what do you guys think? The 14/4 is rated adequetely but i'm no electrician

As long as it's used as a plug-in, and not hard-wired to the house wiring, as long as it's sturdy enough to resist handling and foot traffic, and as long as it's adequately voltage-rated, it won't be dangerous.

As far as code goes, it's not approved for line-voltage use.

I used 14/4 to jumpstart my van once. Worked great. Of course, that was DC.

AC or DC doesn't matter. The value of an AC RMS voltage has what is called the "heating equivalent" of DC of the same voltage. What was different in your case was 12V. instead of 120V.

it will work but don't do it in my house. If you need a quick fix I can understand but as a permanent setup no way. can you say lawsuit
