Does anyone have a suggestion for programable remotes that can be used with my system (Mostly Sony) and in each zone of my Elan home system? I've tried a few and don't feel I hve found the best one yet.
Thanks.

Marantz has a remote called the RC1200 that is fully programmable and is relatively easy to use. I do remember having some difficulty programming an Elan stock remote into it once, but ended up doing fine. Why don't you look at using an Elan Z100 keypad for your system? Do you have an Elan Z system now???

I don't know anything about elan. But I know that there are a few Prontos that are divided into room categories instead of activities.

We typically use the Marantz RC-1200 remotes for remote control of Elan systems.
Even with the keypads, there are times when you just don't want to get up from your easy chair to change the channel, track, or volume.
What's nice is you can take the remote from room to room where Z035 IR tubes are located, and control the system.

I'd HIGHLY recommend the Sony RM-vl900. It is learning, and 13 macro capabilites. Get a label maker and mark the back of the remote that describes what room the remote belongs to. We sell this remote programmed with macros for about $100.

A link?? Um...I'd try http://www.sonystyle.com and go from there..I think it's under the accessories pages. It is AWESOME!. Typically I program the MD page with discrete codes from a Pronto (TV on, TV off, DVD on, DVD off, etc)Then I program the macros to run off those discretes. I kid you not; we've sold about 100 of these in the last 6 months. It kicks butt. Oh, I also think there's a review on the new sony remote and it talks about this one.

I went out today and picked up the VL-900 today. Turns out, I had one already, and returned it. I decided to try it again after I read your post. I programed it in about an hour to control 4 sources in my Elan system. Works Greeeeeat. I will probably redo it again using discrete codes from my 5200, power on and off is tough when your in a zone other then your equip. Now?????if I can only get rid of those lables that don't apply to my programing????/!@#$% Also like the fact that I can clone this one for additional zones.
Thanks Mike

YES!!! Cloning makes it easy. The only thing the cloning doesn't do is the macros under the functions select buttons...but those can be programmed within minutes. I have a MASTER REMOTE so that everytime a salesperson sells one, I clone it, program the macros to their system..DONE!
We were actually a little scared when Sony annouced new remotes because the new one doesn't look as easy. Luckily, Sony is keeping this remote in the line-up for another year. Glad you liked it.
