Came across a K2 setup but no cable to program the keypads. Anyone have the pinout for the 3 pin connector?

When I needed this recently for reference, I called Sonance.

Why doesn't it occur to people to call the manufacturer, especially when it's someone like Sonance who specializes in CI products?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I didnt have time to make the call to them at the time. I was already here looking for something and I figured I'd quickly post so when I needed the info later on and support was closed I may be able to find a response here.

Thanks Musictoo!

Have just purchased a house with Sonance K2 keypads and need to reprogram them. I have the Navigator software but don't have a programming cable and haven't had any success in building a cable.

Can someone confirm that the 3 pin plug has the pinouts 3,5,_,2 (where _ indicates the blanked pin position)? Are the other pins on the DB9 left not connected (ie without handshaking) or do I need to connect 1,4&6 and 7&8 pins for loopback handshaking?

The other potential issue could be the baud rate and serial settings - can someone confirm that 9600 baud and 8/N/1 will work? Or what should I be using?

Any other suggestions or ideas are most welcome

This is the first time I've seen all these things in a thread this short:
*A new member with a clever name
*An eons-old thread revived for a good reason
*A new member with a clear and well-described question
*The EXACTLY RIGHT person giving the best possible answer
*All that happening within a day

I am amused, though, that the answer I gave four years ago was not heeded by the new member. Mann, did you get lucky! I don't know how often Ken visits here, but it sure looks like the starts aligned!

Thanks Ernie

Yes I'm feeling very fortunate and appreciative of Ken's reply.

Actually I did heed your advice and tried contacting Sonance however had no reply - clearly my message didn't get through to the guys like Ken to answer. Anyway I now have my answer and I'm off to retry my cabling .... Thanks for the replies

And now, with that Customer Service Feedback, Ken's got something more to do! It's been a good day all around.

Oh, yeah, Mann -- very often people here get twitchy if you respond to old old threads, but that's mostly because we get irritated with ourselves for responding to something that's probably already been solved. You even avoided that by having a current situation.

Because it is not usually fun or helpful at times with some companies. Besides, we like dealing with you Ernie. These forums are most helpful. It gives us something to do(forums) on our smart phones or tablets while at lunch or sitting on the bowl. Many no longer purchase the newspaper.

Ernie, you have some issues man. Do you feel the need to chime in to every thread and chastise people (as you did to me in this one 4 years ago) and pretend you are the smartest guy here? And when Mann was lucky enough to have Ken @ sonance see and respond to his question you have to play moderator and tell us how a forum is supposed to work in a perfect world? If all manufacturers were as easy to contact or get info out of then possibly there would be no need for a forum like this.

I read your responses in other topics here and you have the same holier than thou attitude. If you want to help people then do that. If you have nothing positive to add, then keep it to yourself. We all may not have all available resources at any given time and sometimes need a friendly helping hand. But you don't seem to know what that is.

But thankfully we have this forum so people like you can keep watch over and tell all of us that aren't as smart as you the answers we need. Oh wait- you didn't even bother to do that in this topic.

John that's because that is what old guys do when they are not whittling. The guy with the tallest tales gets to sit in the middle.

I just recently found an old box in my basement that had a bunch of the old Sonance K2 programming Cables and even a few of RTI's 1st remote cables.

If you continue to have issues with your cables I can probably send you one, let me know.
