I'm installing a higher-end A/V receiver for a client, and it has support for a second zone. They even publish the "8345H (NEC)" codes for each second zone function. For example, the list "8AH" as the code the receiver will respond to for switching zone 2 to Video 1; "83H" for switching zone 2 to Tuner; etc.

How can I take this information and create a discrete hex code that my MX-800 can use???

Thanks in advance!

Can of worms!

The numbers and letters you are referring to are part of an RS232 code string. I don’t believe you are going to be able to turn this pile into IR HEX. "8AH" for instance needs several numbers/letters before and after to make the string work, further, you need some kind of interface that will connect with the RS232 input on the receiver. But this is all moot, as the MX 800 cannot do RS232. I would stick with IR hex where available.

Ummm.. Any reason the receiver brand is a secret here???? Chances are, the remote codes are readily available.

If it is Yamaha, all of the codes are easily translatable into a Philips Pronto, so I imagine the hex codes would work for other remotes as well. You start with the small ocee like you have and a software product called IR Tool will complete the hex code if you set it up with a good coe to start with.

I assume this is a Sherwood receiver, right? The device is 131(83H), sub-device 69(45H)

138 decimal(8AH) is the command or function to switch to Zone 2-Video1.

The quickest way I know of is to download John Fine's MakeHex open NEC.irp change device=131.69. Save the file and drag and drop it onto MakeHex.exe and a file will be instantly created NEC.hex. Take NEC.hex and use IRPanels (both are in the Files|Pronto|Utilities section)to create a ccf file. I believe that you can directly import a ccf file into an MX-700/800

What you will have is all 256 possible commands (in decimal) and then convert the hex for each command (use Microsoft calculator, view, scientific) into decimal to see which one is what.
