If the home is in full remodel then the OnQ is idea. I would look at their unity packages and throw in a door station with camera. With the unity you can do single source or multiple sources from the ZR6 as well as pull music from their computer. The plus side is that it looks good. If the house doesn't fit an existing Unity package then you can customize it any way you desire. "...The OnQ is Idea" or ideal?? That could put me in two different directions!

So the Unity keypads would replace the Niles. You'd go with the Niles Milti-audio processor and Unity control?

Not familiar with the niles processor so I cant give that answer. I'm pretty sure the niles stores IR commands so you would need their keypads. is this correct? I can think of a few ways to set this up but I need to know more about the processor.

Had to bring this thread back for some thoughts. Customer has Nutone music system model number st-1000 This is a tape deck and fm system only. Customer wants to replace system with something modern. I have used the mands systems to replace almost all of the intercom/music systems in the past. This unit has 3 home runs of 4 conductor (phone wire) from master unit in kitchen. It is hard to tell but there are 4 locations with a volume control. I have not figured out yet how they have this run. They are looping somewhere. Customer does not want to tear off sheet rock if possible but wants to use existing wires, updating the speakers (in ceiling) and master unit. About a year ago I called Linear and one of the tech's put me on to a company that had product to retro fit older wall systems into a much better solution than the mands and Nutone options. The problem is I can't remember the company and can't find it. We may end up tearing out sheet rock and putting in Nuvo but wanted to get some other outside options Here are some photos of the current system

Link those pics to someplace they can be viewed full size please.
I'm guessing this is doable with a newer Nutone unit and CD attachment.

I'm guessing this is doable with a newer Nutone unit and CD attachment. Here are all the pictures blown up. Sorry, I forgot to double click image to make it larger. I already bid on the job. The system had 3 home runs back to master unit. I decided to put in a Sonos system with a Nuvo Power amp to power 4 Speakers and get ride of this system. It will be a 4 ohm load system and I am using Tru Audio 8" speakers to replace the old Nutone speakers. They won't have to patch the holes, 10" cut out. Customer is tearing out backsplash and replacing tile so I will install the Sonos system in the laundry room behind current Nutone master station wall. Going to be much better for them! I know that there is a company that can replace these units better than Nutone and MandS. I think it is a 70 volt system but I couldn't remember where I found them before.

No cd player. Just a phono aux jack.
Whitevan, sorry I couldn,t get you the specs on how it is currently wired. We went back today to do a tone test to see how everything was ran. 45ohm speakers! wow! anyways, once I found a home run to a volume control that would control the 4 speakers I wanted, I knew Sonos was the solution. Also found out today the customer was going to replace the backsplash. Next time I will get the specs out there quicker.
You would have said Sonos.
Thanks for you help.

Just rip it out, Drywall over the hole and put Bluesound pulse's around the house.

Could replace the old intercom with any other intercom system, or get rid of it. Most people have phones with them.
Or, Echo Dots, Echo Shows, phone system which offers paging...
Call your local electronics integrator.
Drywall repair and painting are cheap, don't let that keep you from replacing that old ugly intercom that John just couldn't part with. Now that he's gone, go for it.
