I was asked if we are supporting Nuvico now so just to let everyone know.

Nuvico: We support Apex/Apex Lite lines only.

Android: Not supported at this time. Probably sometime in February
Blackberry: jpg video, channel selection, and ptz controls supported.
Iphone-Itouch: jpg video, channel selection, and ptz controls supported.
Winmo: jpg video, channel selection, and ptz controls supported.

Note the way the jpg video for Nuvico works is that the jpg is taken from the mpg4 recorded stream as snapshots. typically you get 1fps in the app.

Nuvico Apex/Apex Lite typically has 3 main resolution sizes

360x240
720x240
720x480

On the iphone we keep the aspect ratio of the jpg video so if you use 720x240 it looks widescreen in our app which is only really useful then in landscape mode. So we suggest using 720x480 or 360x240 sizes to get a proper size.

On bb there are all different hardware and o/s revisions/custom roms for carriers, etc. so it is a little different. in some cases the bb cannot process pictures larger than 640x480 so in that case you need to keep the Nuvico unit at 360x240. in other cases you may be able to use the larger sizes so this will vary.

Recently I called tech support of Nuvico and they gave me the proper URL so that I could use my blackberry to view one of my installed Apex units at a customer's house.

How is your app different, and does it cost any money? Is your Dedicated Micros Ecosense app cost money? Lately I have put in a lot of these units for the Apple/Mac remote viewing support.

best answer is to try both and see the difference yourself. we have a free demo for bb to try. they have tried to do something basic but all of their sales people are actually using our app for obvious reasons once you try them both.

yes our apps cost money. we are a 3rd party developer.

for DM it gets tricky as they are doing things now and trying to retrofit.

this is how DM explained it to me

1. you should look for 'netvu connected' units. this supposedly includes some ecosense and they say it may or may not work for these units. i have not been able to test an ecosense that is netvu connected yet. but for netvu connected units you should have options for picture size on lo, med, hi streams. pick any stream and set it to 320x240 or whatever is closest to that resolution (uk is obviously different size). then pick the same in our app to match lo, med, hi under dedicated micros.

2. 'netvu compatible' - here they tried to take the netvu interface and implement it on older units. in this case your lo, med, hi streams only change the file size not the picture size so these units are hardcoded to the picture size used for recording which is only one size according to DM and that size differs based on model, year bought, etc. so in this case the same issues arise that i explained for Nuvico above. many bb top out at 640x480 so larger size may or may not work. iphone will show widescreen if the video coming in is widescreen since we keep the aspect ratio of the picture that comes in. so for instance we had a customer with an older DM unit who wound up having to use the widescreen format in landscape mode. i am going to see if we can put a doc and some pics or video on this when we can.
