I need to know the model numbers and brands of the best HDTV tuners out there.

I am also interested in the best HDTV sat receivers and CATV descramblers.

I want to add a new category to the IR control databases of MX remotes.

What's your opinion?

Best Regards,

-Eric

My favorite HD receiver out there is the Hughes HIRD E8 Platinum receiver. Its not shiny and silver like the Sony HD 1,2,or 300 (or Zenith). It is a standard black box. But it offers a similar signal meter for the Over the air antenna as it does the satellite making installation much easier. It is also considerably less money than the Sony or Zenith. The Sony and Zenith are the same exact receiver except the Sony comes with a DVI cable making it $100.00 more expensive.

I have always prefered the Zenith (now LG) HD receivers. They have the best upconversion of them all, The best off-air reception, and a signal meter on the remote for help in tuning in off-air stations. No need to go into a menu for that. The latest LG LSS3200 will output both HD and SD at the same time. The Zenith codes have been the same since the first DTV1080, thru the HD520 to the new LSS3200. For places like Pittsburgh, with towers allover the place, and the rolling terrain, It's my only choice. (Unless they are on backorder!)

Remote codes for the Zenith/LG boxes have changed every generation so far.... Sony Codes have stayed consistant.

I have a couple Clients with Both a 1080 and a 520 in the same system... No Remote control confusion at all, and when we got the LG3200s's in a couple weeks ago, I had to build a new CCF again...

What about Zenith HDV420 and HDR230? Are these current models? That's what I found on the Zenith web site.

Isn't LG a brand? Or is the LG3200 actually branded Zenith. And who is correct, Greg or Impaqt? Is it the LG LSS3200 or is tthe LG3200?

-Eric

The HDV420 is still current, OTA HD Tuner only... Yet another Remote Codes Set.....

The HDR-230 is OTA HD Tuner with Hard Drive Kinda like a TiVo for HD, but not as many features... Yet another Remote codeset...

I dont know if these are going to stay as LG now has models Out under the LG badge...

OTA Tuner LST-3100a
HDPVR LST-3401a

My Bad, I meant to say LG's 3200 not LG3200, The Actual model Is indeed LSS3200a, Manufactured by LG Electronics. The Zenith SAT-HD520 is Disco now, and there will not be another HD DSS Receiver branded Zenith. Somthing about Only one Box per Manufacturer......

I'm quite certain the Remotes are indeed all different.
