Hello All,

I would like to setup a home theater in a bedroom and need a good sounding but inexpensive system:

Receiver, 5 (the 2 rears WIRELESS) speakers, sub-woofer.

I don't need that much power at all, but yet, I want it to sound good. Is there anything decent out there for under $200 bucks?

Thanks much!

uhhh. for it to sound decent your going to need at least $500 and thats just "decent"

I believe home depot and kmart have a coby on sale for 189.99 but you would get better sound out of your tv speakers.

you could also get computer speaker and attach them to your tv.

@ $200 your pretty much limited to the HTIB DVD/receiver hybrid thingys. Something like this will probably do the job of sounding better than the TV speakers but there is not a wireless rears option.

FYI its not a real surround receiver so your inputs and outputs are limited to an audio input. That means your cable or satellite box has to wire video directly to the TV and audio can route thru the HTIB.

This will suck because most of the HTIB;s dont have discrete commands so you will need 3 remotes (TV, sat or cable box, JVC HTIB).

If you save up to $600 then you could get a kit like this one that has a real receiver. [Link: bestbuy.com]

I'm not sure how wireless you want them. Pretty much every option I know will still require a power cord and speaker wire to the speaker. There are a few decent options for eliminating the run from the front to the back of the room.

The Kef wireless system is good and you can put the RF Receiver/AMP right at each of the surround speakers, however you pay the price at $600.

The least expensive solution that I have used for many random applications, such as back ground Zone 2 music in another room, or surrounds speakers, is the Bose SL2. This is a non proprietary piece. Its basically a Transmitter that you feed your SL & SR signal into (stereo 3.5 connector) and a Receiver that has the amp built in and speaker level outputs for SL and SR speakers.

At only $249 this is a decent solution. HOWEVER, in both of these scenarios, you have to have an AVR with Preouts. These options also allow you to use whatever speakers you want.

I have no idea how good this is, but you could do something like this:

And just use your own 2 channel amp, but again, need an AVR with preouts.

I'm sure there are many basic stereo wireless send/receive gadgets out there.

well the panasonic one 39 just linked you to would be infintly better then the coby.

sofa king has it right, use the bose audio transmitter/receiver. Bose truly has RF down to a science. but that alone blows your budget.

but like he said your limited to the inputs and absolutely no discreets.

I've actually heard this combination and it ain't bad. You get what you pay for...The DVD Player has a built in iPod dock too, so if you listen to music off your iPod, it is a great add on. Brings all the information straight to your TV.

I'm sure it will do what you want but it will cost you around $400-500.

Hope that helps!

I saw a 5.1 surround system at Target for under $200 that had both a coaxial and fiber optic input for additional sources. Told a friend, she bought it for her son, she hasn't complained.

Wireless. totally different price range.

Buy a cheap HTIB and dont use the rear speakers
Wireless speakers? Of course Sir. Choose the colour and size you like. As you don't seem to think sound quality is important, I will not plug them in.
