I work for a shop that is a Sony dealer. We order Sony product direct. Over the years I have noticed an unwillingness for Sony to stand behind their product when compared to competitors like Pioneer Elite. Pioneer replaces a bad out of box unit with a NEW A-stock unit. Sony repairs the unit, or sends a refurbished unit that sometimes looks like its led a rough life before being refurbished (scratch and dent). We are supposed to contact our Sony rep (who will remain nameless at this point) for A-Stock replacements. We have just received a SLVN700 B-stock in very rough shape to replace a bad out of box A-Stock unit that was found defective while installing a very expensive job. I would not think of walking into a customers house with a white sony box that says "Refurbished" on the outside and has a VCR wrapped in bubble wrap enclosed. The customer and our company paid for an A-Stock unit. The rep has been very sluggish and now is not bothering to reply to us at all. We have contacted the National Sales Manager for Sony (nameless as of yet) and are looking for input as to how to get Sony to replace faulty product with something acceptable (like a new unit much like the competition does).

Simple solution: drop Sony like a hot potato.

I'm just wondering how a $79 VCR found its way into "a very expensive job"....

In a situation like this, I just swap the VCR out of stock..... Deal with the replacement/Repair later and take care of the customer............

Sell the refurb for $59 later...(Or fight with sony until they repair your unit or swap it with a new A-Stock... Good Luck) Isnt taking care of a client thats spending a lot of money with you worth $20?

THis is one of the prices you should learn to deal with being a small sony dealer... The name is nice to have, but for a small shop, there are alternatives.

I used to work for a shop that used only what Sony they needed just for that very reason. Try JVC for VCR's, good performance and reliability.

Isn't that pretty much what a VCR runs these days, with few exceptions (i.e. there aren't a lot of "high-end" VCR options)?

EXACTLY.

JVC and Mits still have a couple decent SVHS models, but most of my ststems now get a DVHS

I would say that manufacturer's do not stand behind their products these days...

I'm dealing with Fujistu on a bad PLasma, Optoma on a bad projector. I dropped HK a long time ago when they had 1 out of 3 DOA's and all seemed to have the same problem, but HK said they had never seen the problem. Quinki Dink that I happen to get all of th AVR300 or 500 or someting like that, that the volume ramped up on it's own. All this over a 4 month period.

I'm sure that we'd all agree, all we ask is that the manufacturer stands behind their products. 90 days is a bullshit warranty. Is it that poorly manufactuered that it shouldn't las longer than 90 days?
Just my 2 cents
Jason
