I have many Direct tv boxes in one room. I can't switch the channels with out turning all the boxes... They are all in one cabinet. I need to change the remote codes in the boxes so they work separately or something.....
Any Suggestions.

Bar or restaurant that didn't want to pay for a real control system?

First, maybe you should post what model number/manufacturer the receivers are before Ernie scolds you for not putting in enough information.

Tell us what model number the remote is, if you can find that on the remote.

More info! There are a number of ways to tackle your situation but more detail is required.

Weezel (sorry but somehow that has a nice ring to it when i type),

Go to DirecTv's website and there is info on how to do this. In short, you can associate each box to a different IR code so each one responds to a different remote. But in order to be of further assistance and not flame you by saying "hire a pro" we would need the whole thing spelled out--box model numbers and how you are using these boxes.

They are right. We can't answer your question unless you give us a question with enough details that we can give correct details. That's what that last half of my signature is all about.

Your thread title indicates that you know the best solution to your problem, but your first post is smarter than that: it says what you think mght work, then says "or something," leaving it up to us to suggest approaches. Maybe different codes aren't the best solution to your problem.

Hey, william -- are there that many code sets? I know you can associate several receivers with RF remotes such that each remote only talks to one receiver, but does this work for IR, too?

Also, I'd be wary of choosing a bunch of different IR code sets for receivers. What if something fails and you need to pull out a new factory remote to try out the receiver? You then have to reset that receiver and remote to the proper codeset before you can even start to test! Anyone you send out for troubleshooting will have to be able to switch IR codes in receivers and remotes. You'll never be able to have the client on the phone, tell him to take a factory remote up close to the receiver and try it out.... I'd rather go for IR routing.

Which brings us back to...what exact equipment are you trying to control? Add to that, trying to control with what remotes? At what budget? At what distance? With how many remotes?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

living room. 7 cable boxes, Each has it's own tv( on wall). all cable boxes are in a cabinet. Right next to each other. WE have Direct tv. The only infor Ihave is the " direct tv" label on the boxes. Instead of a home theatre, we have a home sports bar. Which, if you ask me., is way better

Both have their pluses and minuses. I would choose a theater over a bar ANY day.

Still pretty vague information.

DVR's?
also Look behind them or underneath of them around the Barcode

you could also go into the menu, under settings and find the version too.

All else fails, call DirectTV and have them tell you what the model numbers and come back on here to tell us.

Did you DIY it or hire a trunk slammer?

The D11 models do not support additional IR code sets.

You need a control system to make this operate efficiently. I highly recommend you call a local custom integrator to provide you a solution for your system.

Something along the lines of a URC MX-980 and a couple of MRF-350's will do the trick at a reasonable price. From there the sky is the limit.

Correct.  On top of that, who the hell wants 7 different remotes to control your bar.  If you let us know where you're at, I'm sure one of the guys would be more than happy to offer his services.

P.S.- Don't bother to try and DIY your own MX-980.... it ain't happening.

Nope, Defiantly not. I get frazzled when I go over to my buddies house that has 3 remotes, I cant even imagine 7? and thats just for the boxes.

You would be very impressed what a good pro can do with a mx980 and the correct hardware. Use the money you saved by "DIYing" your system and put it into a very simple intuitive remote system.

you wont regret the decision. Please let us know where you are as we can help you with finding a pro. Their are alot on here from all over the US.(were based in South Jersey)
