What is everyone's obsession with the DTC-100? This is the BIGGEST P-O-S I have EVER been unfortunate enough to install and program. Don't feed me crap about using the discretes... give me a break!!! There are so many other boxes out there that ROMP ALL OVER that failure.

Please don't tell me Sony is better. They are the biggest pieces of s**t out there.
Sony's get so hot they melt access cards. They have no discrete's for aspect ratio. And they love to grab the phone line and hold it for ransom.
So please tell me which units you think are so much better, I'm curious.

Well, from reading another post on this forum concerning the DTC-100, seems rdoc prefers the Hughes HD receiver. That's why there's choices. I just happen to choose the DTC-100 for all the installs I do.

Response by rdoc on 03/21/02 00:52.36 You guys are freaks. Get a Mits/Hughes HD box and solve your 'RCA sucks' problem.

We all know that custom installers need equipment that has discrete codes and has good audio and video quality. The DTC-100 is not the best product ever made, it has its problems but when we are talking compared to the Mitsubishi/Hughes receivers, come on give me a break. Those receivers are about as low quality as you can get. I would imagine if you asked each CUSTOM INSTALLER on this site 90 percent of them use the DTC-100.

What do you hate about the DTC-100? What other HDTV boxes romp all over the DTC-100?
I have 3 complaints against the DTC-100 that I can think of. 1. I don't like the fact that the user MUST press OK after selecting a channel. 2. I don't like the fact that if the user accidentally presses OK the menu appears. 3. I think the way the navigation guide works can be confusing for some people.
That said, the thorough discrete codes are a huge issue and is why we continue to use the unit.

The only complaint that I have on the Hughes is the lack of dicretes, I am currently trying to work out a bug in an IntelliControl program on that issue, but remember when the DTC100 first was out there were no discrete codes to speak of either...

Well I guess I will chime in on this. I personally think RCA has the worst menu and guide. I own all Hughes and Mitsu IRD's except for my HD which is the DTC-100. Picture is great, sounds great, discretes are great but I still prefer the Hughes menu and guide. I wasn't aware that Hughes was lacking in discretes as I only use my Pronto in theatre and not in any of the rooms where my other IRD's are. I was thinking about dumping this for a Hughes but if discretes are a problem I guess I will keep it.
