OK so a few years ago we sold a Philips 50PF973ID/37 50” plasma to a client. Its dead and needs replaced. Here’s the problems:

- It’s a cable card TV and the builder says there is no way a box can go in this room. They have the DVD player stuck to the back of the TV with double-sided tape.
- The Architect told the builder to look into other cable card units or something called a TruWay cable card?
- The quality of the TV has to be good.
- The customer will only use the remote that comes with the TV. They do not want any other remote.
- It’s a stone fireplace with some type of Chief recess box/mount. We will have to find an adapter plate for the new TV.

So any ideas?

I have a Mitsubishi LT-52149 with cable card (last years model) The new Mitsu's don't have cable card. The remote is a learning remote so you should be able to do everything you want with it.
However, they are a little pricey. Your cost is $2150.

Why is the Builder dictating where cable boxes can go? If this was installed years ago, why is the builder still involved with the job anyway?

If the TV is Up on a Fireplace.. Recessed... How exactly do they get to this DVD Player?

- The Architect told the builder to look into other cable card units or something called a TruWay cable card?

I dont know any manufacturers that are still supporting Cable Cards. It seems that it was a really bad idea.... I'm shocked it worked for your client as long as it did.

Too bad this wasn't a requirement the first time ya put the set in eh?

- The customer will only use the remote that comes with the TV. They do not want any other remote.

They refuse to use anything other than a remote they haven't even seen yet?

See first Comment RE: DVD Player...

It's funny we are involved at all, i'm guessing it's because Bestbuy couldn't help.
We were only involved the first time because he had some company from the east coast come in to do the job. They couldn't wire or provide the TV's but they were the experts i was told. The Philips TV was speced by them, they just let us sell it so they didn't have to deal with putting it in. This other company sent 1 guy to put the system in, including hanging the TV's.
This guy is best friends with a client we really want to get, thats the real reason we are going out of our way to help him.

Oh, almost forgot, to use the DVD they have to get the step stool from the kitchen. If i remember right it's a little Philips, hell bthe remote won't even reach it. Nice HUH?
Hey Thursday, is that Mitsu NIB?

Tru2way is just starting to become available. But only from Panasonic and in limited areas: [Link: news.cnet.com]

Next year there should be more.

This is obviously a case where the customer, Architect, builder and whoever else is involved doesnt know WTF they are talking about.

I've always found that when jobs go smoothly and people are excited and happy with the results, THATS when I get referals.

This may come as a shock to some folks..... But the Customer is Not always right...... Especially when it comes to speccing their own gear.... Who in their right mind would want a Factory TV Remote to do everything unless they have only been exposed to poorly programmed and hard to use universal remotes?

Sometimes ya gotta grow a set and say hey, wait a second here... I can do what your asking quite easily.. but is it REALLY what you want? Because The system can be much more stable and eaiser to use if we........
