As we are completing the Casino design, we have been formulating different plans on HDMI. Whenever we design a product, we always get a LOT of input and feedback from integrators.
I would greatly appreciate your professional input on HDMI product types and the features you would like to see.
The survey will only take a couple of minutes. We will be offering discounts and some product give away's to those who participate.
Thanks in advance for your help. Here is the link to the survey.

We wish it would too. But since we're stuck with it we want to solve as many problems as we can for the integrators (other than the pain in the a$$ spec that we have to deal with).
We have already some great input. Thanks for the participation, keep it coming!
Thanks.

I would say the faster the switching the better. If you could keep the EDID stored in the receive side (or the output side) instead of passing it all the way from source to display that would probably help a lot. (I'm guessing here, but it makes sense in my head.) That and not losing sync on one TV when switching another one.

We have two ends with a common link, With one we sit, with one we think; Success depends on what we use, Heads we win, tails we lose. |

ceied, how do you really feel? I have to say I'm totally in agreement with Ed. HDMI is one big pile of horse Sh!t.
I had to replace two cables yesterday, one was working the first day of install and mysterious stopped after a week.
The other one was put into place in the lift cabinet but when we added the Panasonic Blu-ray player to the 50" Panny TV, it displayed the U703, non-compatible HDMI cable.
Replaced it with an identical cable, same length and it worked. I wasted over an hour yesterday trouble shooting HDMI issues and I'm getting very tired of it.

Hey Jeff,
How about some diagnostic features to track down what exactly is the root cause of whatever problem the user is having. I think one of the biggest sources of animosity against HDMI is the fact that most people see it as an "it works or it doesn't" and for right now we don't have any way to track down what the hell is going on, lest we want to spend tens of thousands on specialized test gear...
The ability to inject CEC commands onto the line will be a much bigger deal in the near future. Perhaps a system that would map Zektor IR or 232 commands directly to 1.3a spec CEC commands. This would be nice if the integrator wants to control the device via CEC, but only has a basic IR control system in place.

I cannot see how you are going to improve on what Crestron is offering but some sort of feature set that incorporates what Digital Media offers is the sine qua non.
Solve distance issues, provide matrix switching and pre key the system so switching is faster and more reliable. As anyone with experience with HDMI has learned the issues are all in the low speed data. Eliminating these issues gets us a long way to solving issues with HDMI.
I did not say the soluton would be easy or inexpensive. But without this feature set what is the point? Existing off the shelf gear works more or less imperfectly so if we cannot get past it why bother.
Ultimately, some sort of meter that does not cost 10K is required. Even Crestron's DM link provides less info that I'd like. When HDMI fails it would be nice to know why by using a meter to deduce what happened. Currently we have only inductive logic.

Yes, Jeff, something a little bit more precise than "HDCP Blanks Output" would be nice.

Thanks for the replies here and for the many that have clicked into the survey, we greatly appreciate them. By the time I joined Zektor, the first generation Clarity products were on their way to completion. By the time we went to CEDIA '08 the feedback at the show told us that we were missing a number of required and desired features. It's critical to learn from your mistakes, we've all had them.
Ever since we starting shipping the new version of that family we have been told that this is the best component matrix switch on the market from ANY manufacturer. With that being said, our goal is to do the same thing in HDMI. I can't go into too much detail about what we're doing, but our goal is to provide a Crestron DM type system with the critical and desired features that are being requested from the survey and from our base of integrators that have engaged with us.
With the length of time that HDMI has been out, as well as the financial and technical resources that Intel and Silicon Image has, that they could do a significantly better job in delivering this product. We have chosen to stay out of HDMI mostly while only offering one or two SKU's at a time. We currently offer a 3X1 switch called the MAS7.1 which is also used widely as a 7.1 analog audio switch. We will begin to release our new HDMI products towards the end of Q1 next year.
The feedback has been excellent with 90% of the responders having the same requests for features and having the same frustrations. Hollywood will not get over the fact that piracy happens at the computer not in the entertainment system. Putting blocks and keys in the way doesn't solve the problem, it makes people avoid HDMI like the swine flu whenever possible. I don't think they will ever get that genie back into the bottle. No matter how much money Hollywood, RIAA and the MPAA pour into encryption, someone always figures out a way to get around it. Until those groups can solve that problem, the CI industry will be stuck dealing with tech support issues.
We agree with ceied, we wish it would just go away...
Thanks again for your clicks into the survey. Please keep them coming.

Jeff-
I will take the survey when I have some free time.
You had to know ceied's comment was coming from someone. It is good to see constructive criticism from some though.
You may consider getting in touch with Jeff at DPI labs (and/or Brent) to see what they are working on especially with troubleshooting, data/power verification, and distance issues.
I would imagine your solution would be balun based.
I have found a lot of my problems are in the "repeating" side of the process.
Thanks for taking CI feedback!

Thanks for the input Corey. I know that Jeff and Brent are well respected and very knowledgeable in HDMI, I'm not sure that they are looking to help guide us in product direction as competitors. They might suggest that we start building something like an HDMI product with a 5.25" diskette interface to throw us off track for a while. We'll take good input from anyone if they want to contribute.
Thanks in advance for your participation in the survey.

We have had some great input and would like to keep this going. If you could take a few minutes to complete the survey we would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance for your professional input.
