I have a friend an NAD 2600 Amp (wont power on) and a B&W 800ASW Subwoofer (possible bad amp)
These are both great peices of equipment and I'm wondering if you guys think they are worthy of repair.
If so, are any of you aware of a B&W repair shop on the west coast? Preferably California.
Also a NAD repair shop on the west coast? Preferably California.

If you don't want that NAD amp, I promise to keep it out of the dumpster.
:)
As for the sub, it's too expensive to be shipping around.
B&Ws subs were never ground pounders, but they are clean and will pull a decent figure from Audiogon or eBay.
I would definitely look into repairing it...
Hopefully you can find a local shop to repair it, or at least pull out the amp and send it in separately.

Amps are pretty easy to work on. I would find any reliable local repair shop and get an estimate to get it fixed there. No need to send to NAD/B&W.
And yes, unless the entire amp is charred and blown, it is usually cheaper to get them fixed. That is, if you take them to the right place that replaces components, rather than swapping entire boards.

I can ask my bench tech, but likely so as any of the 800 series are quite expensive.

Jeff,
Obviously B&W and NAD are each still in business, and hopefully that means that schematics and parts are available.
Call the reps for these lines and see if they have a recommendation for service centers near your location.
If they are anything like my old firm, they received a fair amount of service calls, and had to keep tabs on the competent service centers.

I spoke with my tech Rodney, his response was: I can do component level with proper schematics, but B&W will likely send replacement board.
Having said that, I'm sure you can have someone closer repair it, but if not, send me the unit and we will turn it around.

just take the amp out of the sub and send to Bmaxey. less to ship. hook up differnt amp to the sub driver to check for proper operation.
