Anyone know of an attachable LCR speaker system for a 42" TV for less than a thousand bucks retail?

Check out the Monitor Audio R1HD. Suggested retail is either $800 or $850
[Link: monitoraudio.co.uk]
Overall width is just under 40"
It comes with a mounting plate to attach it easily to the wall above or below a flat panel. In regard to attaching it directly to a tv - do you mean attaching it to the bracket that is mounting said tv to the wall? Need a little more info.
FWIW - I have had very good luck (albeit with a little creative retrofitting) with this speaker unit and the chief pdr articulating mounts.

Atlantic Technology FS4000 hits your price point and performs extremely well. Definitely one to consider for this application. $1,000.00 list in a true LCR config. [Link: atlantictechnology.com]

Dammit, you beat me to the Monitor Audio piece...
Even though I beat you - isn't it nice to know that someone else was thinking exactly the same thing. The piece actually sounds pretty good for what it is and how much it sells for.

I have used this piece in a few jobs and every customer has been very happy with the results. We usually pair with a Velodyne MiniVee or MiniVee 10

We quoted one for a job last week. I hope we get it! I really like the Monitor stuff I've heard so far. And I LOVE the finishes they offer. I did a family room with two piano white Radius R90HDs and a Velodyne Minivee in a BIG OPEN space. They look perfect on the custom built cabinets and sound great for such a big space. I would spec the same setup again in a heartbeat.
Back on topic - The Atlantic FS4000 would also be a great choice. Don't be surprised when you pick one up - that thing weighs like 50 pounds! Definitely built out of some good "stuff". :)

Another for the Monitor. That is our value priced choice. Our prefered choice is Triad Mini LCR 3.0

[Link: atlantictechnology.com] I have a client that has this l/c/r and for what ever reason it didn't work for the space and it's sitting in the box in his garage. Used for 10 minutes apparently.
He keeps asking if I can sell it for him (not my biz...), BUT I'm sure you could get a deal on it.
PM me and I can put you in touch with him and you can make your own deal.

My vote for sound and built quality is Definitive technology. you can connect as an LCR even though it is a surround bar. It also meets your price point.

I put one in two weeks ago with the EAR-C on a UCLX from Omnimount. Works really well. Plus the speaker is fairly light so you don't have to worry much about the speaker swaying back and forth when you move the TV. I did have to put a "custom" cardboard shim in so the speaker would sit more square.
When deciding on my main speaker line I looked at Monitor Audio because the simplistic product selections (ie platinum, gold, silver, bronze) and the look of the speakers. Also, they have always received great reviews. I've been extremely happy with the product and it's always a pleasure when I get to put them in. They actually sound better than they look!
