I was doing some work in a 10th floor office building and the cell signal was really spotty (AT&T). It's one of those situations where you have to stand facing a certain direction, with one foot 7.3" off the ground, humming a Carpenter's song in order to get any reception...
Anyway, they asked if I knew of a cell signal boosting devise that I could install.
I've had limited success with the Zboost product and I mean limited because it clearly states that it "boosts" an existing signal so if you ain't got much signal you ain't gonna get much boost... We had a crap in, crap out situation where I installed one in a home so I can't blame the Zboost.
But the signal in this office is 5 bars in one corner and 0 across the room so I'm thinking the Zboost may work in this situation.
There may be an issue with the amount of aluminum and steel construction that may interfere with the Zboost... Also, there is no way to mount the antenna externally on the building, so its got to go in the ceiling...
Anyway, anybody have any feedback?

Go for it. You should be fine. On the side with 5 bars is that signal consistently strong? If so, you are okay.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results... |

Yea, it's pretty consistent and we can access that part of the ceiling pretty easily.
Does the transmitter need to be over a dead spot (may be hard to get over) or does it cover pretty well.
I'd say we're talking approx 1,900 square feet.

My company has done a bit of this though I've not been involved so I cannot provide much specifics. What I can say is that performance has been no where near what the manufacturer promised.
RF environment would play a factor but even in the best suburban environments performance has just barely met expectations. It also depends on how many cell boosters you can specify.
Most cell booster antennas are line of site. They don't distinguish well between competing signals so if you cannot rotate the antenna to maximize your carrier's signal beware.
Even then, the number of repeaters and the amount of coverage they provide has not equaled the performance the clients have expected. I have to say that while I know a fair amount about RF I know almost nothing about cell frequencies or measurement devices. I would say that the performance with the devices we've used would cause me to hesitate unless I could temper expectations considerably.

I put one of these in today:
[Link: tech.blorge.com]
3 story house by the beach and very bad cell service. Client went from 1 bar to full signal on only the 3rd floor. Dropped down a bit on the 2nd floor, and we did not get into working with it on the ground floor.
We are doing more work there so I will play with it and post my results...
