I'm venturing a guess here..... The 8000 led's came with an RF and and IR remote. Is it possible that the 8500 is all RF? Or is it possible that the 8500 has a setting that turns IR on?

Again I'm just guessing.

LG has great control, they now even have their slim led line hitting the streets (pic not as good as the samy though) Recent Toshibas (as long as it's from the "REGZA" line) are great as well, you just have to dig around a bit to get the discrete input codes.....
I'm Not an engineer, but I play one on TV.
My handle is Tweety but I have nothing to do with the organization of similar name. I just had a really big head as a child so folks called me tweety bird.

My votes go to Panasonic V and G series Plasma, Anything JVC, Toshiba for value, and Sharp (though I haven't done a sharp in ages - but they've always been great looking, performing and controllable sets). Never liked any samsung I've seen...and have definitely run into random and annoying control issues over the years.

Again I'm just guessing.

Also, Samsung has been changing around the IR receivers in some pretty weird locations. Also it blends into the bezel making it difficult to find it. Could it be placed in the wrong location? I know that seems simple but we spent half an hour trying to figure out what was going on. I think these two arguments are more likely. Haven't had too many problems with Samsung. Like Panny's too! Their new sets are making good improvements.

Probably because most of us have no source for them.

Because we don't buy our TV's from Best Buy, Fry's, etc.

Samsung plasma discrete codes are under discrete functions 2007 in URC database.
They are OK for most models (just installed few - customer supplied of course). I second the notion of not selling TV for minus $50 - minus $100. Shame that none of distributors can provide TV wth ANY margin.

Not true. There are regional distys for Sony, a national Disty and direct. Sony was signing up direct dealers at CEDIA this year too.

i make great margin on my panels, the secret to great margin is what you offer. i havent sold a panel for below suggested retail in months. figure out what it takes for your area and sell that feature. i mostly sell the panny plasmas. v and g series are freakin awesome. check out the displaymate dot com site for their latest plasma vs lcd test. its a little techy but dig into it and figure out why i get msrp for my panels and most of you are having to treat panels as a loss leader.
