I could kill a few dopes at Samsung. New 8500 series LED doesn't work with any codes in my RTI library and the ones that worked the 7000 series don't do this one. AAAARRRGGGHH!

I long for Pioneer... where the codes from 1999 worked till the end.

I admit to being a lazy f*$k and letting clients get their own sets because making minus $25-$50 just to get the audio and control is a pain in my *ss. I am prepared to take back the reigns of my display business but first I need to query my brothers here. What are the best sets for discrete on and off... discrete input that works flawlessly EVERY TIME... and fastest wake up till an input command can be sent?

Maybe determining a clear winner here will send a message to manufacturers (maybe it will snow in hell today as well). It might stick AVAD and other distributors with some f*&^%$G TOAD TVs though if we all migrate to one that has our best interests at heart.

Thanks in advance...

And why the f@$%!@#$% does Samsung have one set of volume codes that goes up one step at a time but won't sustain, and another whole set that sustains.  WTF?

Jim,
I've run across that with other brands when setting up satellite receivers. I think it's like this -- codeset A works with list A of models and codeset B works with list B of models, but codeset A gives you one step at a time with list B models.

Almost always, when this can happen, the satellite installer has set the DirecTV remote for the one that goes one step at a time because that came up first and he didn't check for sustain. That teaches our clients to hit the remote repeatedly, which is a bad thing.
I have ACTUALLY said this a thousand times: We can't help you much without the make and model of everything involved in the problem! Unless you want a vague answer. Or none. Your move.

Roland, go LG. Easy to control either IR or 232.

Nuvision really seems to have turned things around. I saw the 65" and it was amazing. I have been including it in system pricing lately but with the economy the way it is, clients are running to Slamslung and Sharp and wanting to know exactly what the price of the set is. As a veteran, I know how to play the game... just seems like I'm losing at it more often and having to take jobs I used to turn down.

We used to spec and sell the old Nuvision sets but we gave up on them when they could never supply us. We also had a customer buy a Sharp because they didn't like the Nuvisions picture. Hate to say it but the Sharp absolutely kicked its ass and the set now sits in our conference room as a computer monitor.

I recently sold a few LG plasmas...good to hear that when I go to program them that the codesets are nice... Thats why this site is so valuable...thanks guys and gals.

Never had any problems with Panasonic. Start up time and codes are quite good.

Another vote for Panasonic here, even just bought one myself despite not even being a Panasonic dealer.

Corey,

What codes are you using?

I have a plasma that will not go to HDMI1 with anything I have in my library but will reliably turn on and off (LN63B550). I'd leave it on HDMI1 because everything runs through an Integra DTR8.9 but Slamslung in their infinite wisdom and attempt to be the cutesiest TV have that f*&^%$g stupid "touch" feature that changes to a channel input when they clean the fingerprints.

I was impressed with how quickly the 7000 series LED turned on and reliably switched inputs but that same codeset does not do a thing to the 8500 series with its little hanging silver testicle IR receiver and supposed "2way" remote. Nice feature to touch a few TV buttons and make your remote beep but come the f*$k on and just give me a reliable monitor.

another vote for the Samsungs, I've got an older set (2 years old) and all the discretes work perfectly. Installed one of the latest 55" for a customer last week and using the 2009 discretes in the URC database everything went swimmingly.
I have read of problems with the new superslim LED sets but then I've not used one so can't comment.

Mark,

Can you post those codes? The TV in question is an 8500 series SlimLED and like I mentioned, the 7000 series went swimmingly for me just 8 months ago... now they appear to have changed things around. I'm aware of how fickle codes are though so I'd love to compare. We don't do URC... I've tried everything in the RTI database.

For everyone,

How is Toshiba for discretes?

I have a 55SV670U on the way for myself, It lacks 232 but does have the IR passthru (I wont be using it though) I have done a couple of Toshibas in the last few months and they had discretes for power and input..I had to do a little testing but found them and all was good.
