Hello all,
I'm in the process of building my home theater pc. I have the pc built, and am testing software packages for playback and control.
My question is: Is it possible to send an IR command that will select a particular video source on a Sony tv rather than scrolling through the different sources manually?
This will affect what kind of remote control I look for and how I wire the system together. i.e., whether or not I have to pass my dishnet signal through the pc rather than direct connect.
Any and all advice is welcome.
Thanks,
Russ

Is this a simple process? For example, if I'm currently on eithe source 2 or 3 and want to go to source 5, then a single 'macro' or such will work for both situations?
Thanks,
Russ

Discrete code are what you are looking for, they are availablein several places. Some universal remotes have them built in (sony rmav3000) some remotes are computer based (marantz5200,9200, pronto's) those code are avaliable in the "discrete forum" section and other places. You have to have a pronto or like to get the codes. cb1

I have run across files here on remotecentral with discrete codes for the different Sony TV inputs up to Video 7.
This is in the Pronto files section. That implies you would want to specify a Pronto or Marantz -- one of the remotes mentioned in the header for the site.
If you want to use some other learning remote, you can download the file from here, put it into a Pronto or Marantz, then teach it to that remote. For my money, and my customers', I just supply them Prontos or Marantzes. I prefer the Marantz because it has a "back" command that will take you back to the last page you were on; the Pronto does not have this but you can set up timers with the Pronto. I never have seen a need for a timer, myself.

You could also use an auto switcher that selects the active video input. They only normally go up to S-video in consumer price range, but it's another option. I have an extra Sony here somewhere. =Tom
