has anyone had problems with standard def on this set, 50", with the samsung sat reciever? I've tried it on both dvi and component--on dvi it was so pixelated it was making me dizzy, it was a little better with component but still a little dizzy--hd looked decent..just wondering --what are some general opinions on this sony set?

Please see my thread "Sony LCOS looks like crap on a stick."

I was corrected; it is an LCD. And oh, hell, I just realized you are talking about the plasma.

Anyway....

Is this the same problem you are having? At this point I have not dragged out a videotape to see if the VCR looks just as bad, so I do not get yet whether it is the cable box or the video section of the TV. Could it be something that the video circuitry of both of these TVs does?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

yes ernie, and thank you for the response--the artifacting is incredible, it looks good on regular dvd, havn't tried progressive yet, looks good on vcr, but sat is horrible--the hd channels look ok, not great, and the sd channels are so bad that it cannot be watched. I 'm hoping it's somethinmg else and not the tv--
