It's a 50" LCD screen...

Has anyone seen one of these? Does it look good?

The price is right for one of my customers... (it retails for $3900)

My supplier says it's HD compatible (but that doesn't matter for this guy, since he's too far from anything to get HD)
We can do it my way, or we can do it my way while I yell. The choice is yours.

I saw that 50" and the 60" sets at CEDIA. They looked good but were only being fed H.D. The 60" had a little jitter in it, it looked interlaced, but the 50" was rock solid. The engineer guy there seemed to say(I spoke no japanese and he spoke only a little english) that they both used the same LCD engine, but there was a difference.

I am currently burning in a 42" Hitachi plasma. It supposedly uses the same 1080P scaler as that used in the 50 and 60 LCD. I am not very impressed with 480I picture quality conversion. It looks ok on H.D. material though. This plasma uses a 1024x1024 panel so I assume it upconverts incoming video to 1080P and then just displays it, the 50V500 has a 720P LCD so the scaler upconverts to 1080P then rescales to 720P. How this makes the picture better I don't know.

Phil...

agree with you completely..

saw both at CEDIA...

The 50" looked REALLY good, and the 60" looked ok..

That stands to reason though...if the 50 and the 60 have the same engine (I was also told this) and the 60 has more screen size (it does) and more pixels (also, it does) then it stands to reason that the same engine, which in this case seems to be designed for the 50", would have to work far harder to produce that much more on the 60.

I assumed that using the same engine meant that the exact same imaging system was used on each, that the LCD panels were the same part number, same resolution and same pixel count. The only difference would be the cabinet, mirror, screen and possibly the lens. With the same engine the only difference should be a slightly lower briteness on the larger screen.

I questioned the Hitachi rep because the 60" looked like the picture was interlaced--impossible if the same engine as the 50" was used.
